A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO GUMBALL
If you're new to [TC] CityDriving and have never competed in Gumball then at first it might all seem quite confusing. This quick guide should hopefully get you started and help you to understand what all the fuss is about.
What is Gumball?
In real life, Gumball is a 3000 mile road trip adventure, and we've put our own unique spin on it. For more information on the real life Gumball, click here: (Click to View)
The Gumball 3000 rally was founded in 1999 by Maximillion Cooper. It is a 3,000 mile (4,800 kilometre) international road rally which takes place on public roads and every year sees a different route. 120 cars enter each year, mostly exotic cars or sports cars. There are no prizes for being the fastest and there is no timekeeping of any sort. The Gumball 3000 is a "road trip adventure" and not a race.
This year's Gumball is its 19th anniversary and started on Saturday 1st July. The rally started in Riga and will conclude in Mykonos 7 days later.
This year, our Gumball will start at 21:00 UTC+1 on Friday 21st July and will last for 14 days. It is split into 4 main challenges:
- Opening weekend challenge: Drive as far as you can on the CityDriving servers during the opening 48 hours.
- 7 day distance challenge: Drive as far as you can on the CityDriving servers in 7 days. <- Main Challenge
- 14 day distance challenge: Drive as far as you can on the CityDriving servers in 14 days.
- Stages challenge: Drive 3000 miles in 14 days in designated chunks.
For more information on the challenges, stages challenge and special events, please see the relevant sections in the 'About Gumball' thread.
So it's just driving? That sounds boring!
Wrong!
Gumball is not all about driving. The community comes alive during the Gumball. The opening night and opening weekend of Gumball are unique to our event. Most drivers will stay up all night and most of the next day to claim an early lead in the rally or to compete in competitions organised by the presenters of the non-stop CityDriving radio show that plays the best driving music into our ears all through the night. Teamspeak is always full, the mood is light and the community spirit is fantastic. Our live tracker will keep you up to date with your position in relation to everyone else in the rally to the metre. There will be a plethora of special events organised during the rally where you can claim even more prize money in just a few minutes! You really do have to try it out for yourself!
