My budget is around 150 USD

What is a good graphics card that can run most games on high/medium settings?

Sorry for not being so specific but I am a noob so I don't really know.

Is this a good graphics card?

Id suggest either;
GTX 550 Ti
ATi HD 6850/6870

both should be around your price range
Got an ATI 6870, works perfectly. Smile
Runs LFS on 8x AA and BF3 on ultra.
Thanks friends.

Will make sure to check it out..

Well running it on ultra is one thing but acctually running it in playable FPS is another:

Green: Avarage FPS
Red: Lowest FPS
Meh, three things:

1) My monitor is alot smaller than 1920x1080
2) I most likely wont be playing BF3 in the first place
3) 30 fps isnt all that bad anyways right?

Thanks for the heads up though Crille. Thumbup1
1. Ahh mah gawd. Get atleast a 1920x1080 monitor first!
2. Sayyy whatttttt
3. It's like when you find those old youtube videos that were recorded with a potato.

Serious:

1. I do not know how much resolution affects FPS.
2. I haz other chart below.
3. Well I wouldnt want to play with it. It's to "choppy" for me.

Found a pure performance test at 1280x720:

Here's a nice place to compare graphic card prices and performance;

Though only the higher end ones seem to have a price tag next to them atm. Still nice for comparing performance
Its probably more like the ones you can actually buy these days, the ATI 9800 pro is ooooooooooold (for example)

Youtube videos are 30fps max afaik Tongue

35+ is generally considered playable for FPS games, "smooth" is stable 50+ or ideally at least what your monitor's refresh is (usually 60)

The prices are only a vague guide anyway (not to mention they're US prices, so useless anywhere else) - actual prices you can get them will always vary, often day-to-day, so it's only useful for the performance side of price:performance.

Yes today, but notice I said "old" Wink Majority of the old ones are smooth but every so often you come across a horrible one.
