Loooonng time no see McG!
Yeah, lost interest after the reset, ended up devoting a lot of my time to work and the Maritime Volunteer Service, then I started getting back into TC when my laptop died and only came back a few days ago.
Checked this thing out a bit better in good light etc... Did minor fixes to some bits.
This is just the start of the project then...

To do list:
0. Random all-around fixing which is always required after buying a car Wink
-----------------
1. New exhaust
2. New engine (from the shed)
3. Fix the trunk for rust (the only rust left is there so it will be perfect after this)
4. Paint the rear arches properly (they're badly painted, very matte. That won't cut it here!!)
5. Clean the crap out of the interior and exterior
6. Rustproof all the things
7. Move nice bits from the silver one to this one
8. Drive
9. ???
10. Profit
11. Crash it while driving drunk? Smile

My father has no time for this stuff.. I often do work for him instead.
Sounds like the car had rust that was already repaired. I'd do the good ole hammer and screwdriver test. Should have done that on my blue rabbit pickup!

And don't rustproof! Rustproof seems to inhibit rust if you don't do it in a 100% dry environment and coat every inch! A3 VWs were notorious for that.

And Zippy he was working on his Alken and saw my grills laying there on his day off and decided to have fun.

Doesn't just sound like it, all the rust was thoroughly repaired with new sheet metal not long ago. The paint is OEM colour and painted with a spraygun but I think there's no clearcoat on it.

And Blade my boy.......... You haven't seen what happens in finnish weather with no rustproofing. Especially now in winter when the road surface is 50% wet snow and 50% road salt. Instakill for cars. And I'm a car mechanic after all so I do have some contacts with rustproofing experts.Wink Us finnish people have mastered the skill of defeating rust since our conditions are the worst in Europe rustwise and still we drive the oldest cars statistically.......
In Canada, Ontario and Quebec have it the worst, roadsalt everywhere, it's common to have a bit of rust on the underbody, even the Jetta has a bit underneath, and some occasional paint chips are starting to rust, I'd fix it if I had the car with me right now, my brother apparently needs it more than I do, as he's in a different city.

That's why I'm wanting a project vehicle of my own, and hopefully my parents don't go all hypersensitive over it. my mother got offended by the car's colour in the listing for the purple MX-6, and my father called the damn thing a 'lemon', that wouldn't last long.
I'm also into fixing cars, they underestimate me too much, and go nuts when I exceed their expectations.
Where I live cars rust in their first winter if not washed every few days. I won't ever buy another used car with rustproofing after the gold rabbit lol. My buddies A3 jetta rotted thriught because moisture got between the floor board s and the undercoating. And all at once fell through and he never knew til it happened lol
Different climates and different methods I guess. Never seen a car with rustproofing go bad like that.

Bad quality combined with bad maker I guess, lol
Ready for Winter..

Declared off the road for the moment (some problems with rust, say no more)-and no license for at least another year...just keeping it clean and driving it off the road, for the moment.
