Im looking at getting a HP XW8200, has anyone ever had one of these? or know of anybody with one? Are they any good for lfs, minecraft etc?
Thanks
Don't buy it. Never ever buy branded PC's. Besides, what you are looking at is a server. It wont do gaming well at all. Also, it's several years old. You've got to be on the bare bottom regarding PC's to buy something like that for gaming.
Go for something prebuilt by a company specialized in such. You get Waaaay more performance for your money, and the ability to upgrade later. Also it'll be worth way more when you're going to sell it later on.
Ok thanks
what computer would you suggest for £200-400?
Edit: These are the specs of my computer, is there any bits you would upgrade or just buy a prebuilt one?
Operating System
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 32-bit SP3
CPU
Intel Pentium 4 630
Prescott 90nm Technology
RAM
1.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR @ 188MHz (3-3-3-8)
Motherboard
MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD MS-7143 (Socket 478) 35 °C
Graphics
L1715S (1024x768@70Hz)
512MB GeForce 7100 GS (Undefined)
Hard Drives
149GB Seagate ST3160212AS (SATA) 41 °C
Optical Drives
SONY DVD RW DW-D22A
Audio
Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
Well, with that system, I'd sell it for 30-40£ and buy a new one for 350-450£.
I'm from Denmark, so I don't really know any places where you can buy prebuilt ones in the UK, but I know they're there.
Why get a prebuilt computer anyway? It's not difficult to do it yourself, my cat could do it if it had thumbs.
Hahahaha
I will try building one myself then
If Mikee can do it... anyone can
all you need to know is how stay without a static charge, and what parts you should get. If you're looking for a low budget gaming rig, the AMD Trinity APUs should do the trick. Sure, the graphics are somewhat intergrated, but it's miles better than what you have now.
From what I've read in this minus the silly posts, I would recommend having a look here:

I guess you're not much of a nerd by the specs you have posted above, which is good, because I'm not 1 either. If you're looking for a simple choice to make, check out my link
Or if you're feeling adventurous and enjoying the darkness and comfort of your bedroom/basement, then maybe attempt building your own. Just my 2 cents
Nah, building your own is really easy. Just post pictures and questions here.
This is a small shopping list I made for you:
Case
Motherboard - Just find a list of the most popular ones atm, and pick the most popular one that fits into your budget. Make sure your CPU is compatible with its socket.
CPU - Go for intel Core i5 (preferable 3570K)
RAM - DDR3, go for 1600MHz. Just pick some of the cheapest. Doesn't really matter that much.
Graphics card - Go for AMD HD7850 or Nvidia GTX 660 or alike. (google it)
PSU - Go for something Corsair. 450W+ should do it for your setup.
If money is for it, maybe an SSD to speed up boot, load times and saving times.
Thanks guys, will get building soon
Started building the computer
List of bits I have got, done and fiited
Asus HD7850 graphics card
Intel Core i3-3225 3.30ghz
MSI Z77A-G43 DDR3
Samsung Green 8gb(2x4gb) DDR3
Aerocool GT-S 500w "80plus bronze"
Just about to order a CD+DVD Drive and operating system,
Looking at windows 7, OEM version is fine, any advantages to 32bit or 64bit, or does it depend on processor etc.??
Also would like it to be 2 or 3 user version
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Kieran
When +3GB you need 64bit for the computer to calculate the total amount og ram. if you have 32bit with 8gb for an example you will only get to use about 3.25GB.
That system is quite nice
PS: I have the same motherboard, so if you need help just ask in this thread (I hate PM's
)
That's really nice. Did you order the parts and all? Or did you virtually build it? (find parts and make a list)
If you actually took the initiative to try and go all the way with a self-build, then massive thumps up to you!
Ask whatever you need help with, if you should run into trouble.
