PC Upgrade time! - Bez - 2015-11-13 08:59 Hello all, I'm looking to update my PC to the new Skylake Intel CPU which means me buying the following within a £300-£500 budget:
The CPU has a £110 difference in price tag between the i7 and i5, here are the stats of them both: (Not looking to overclock) (£269.99) Intel Core Skylake Processor i7-6700/3.4 GHz (Turbo Boost 4.0 GHz) 4 Core 8MB Cache Socket 1151 (£157.13) Intel Processor Core Skylake I 5-6400/2.7 GHz (Turbo Boost 3.3 GHz) - 4 cores 6MB Cache Socket 1151 The Motherboard I have been looking at is the: (£131.33) MSI Z170A Gaming M5 its stats are: Supports 6th Gen Intel Core / Pentium / Celeron processors for LGA 1151 socket Supports DDR4-3600+(OC) Memory DDR4 Boost: Give your DDR4 memory a performance boost USB 3.1 Gen2 2X FASTER: USB 3.1 Gen2 offers performance twice as fast as a regular USB 3.0 connection Twin Turbo M.2 64Gb/s + Turbo U.2 ready + USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C + Type-A combo + SATA 6Gb/s I'm currently unsure on what DDR4 Ram to get. I've heard good things about HyperX and G.Skill ram sets. I'm looking for a total of 16GB no more. Thanks for reading. If you have any insight on products that you think I could change or if the i7 is really worth paying an extra £110 for over the i5. Cheers, ~Bez RE: PC Upgrade time! - Owl - 2015-11-13 15:19 In my opinion unless you are doing video editing go for the i5 RE: PC Upgrade time! - GT4tube - 2015-11-13 18:42 i5 6500 and HyperX. RE: PC Upgrade time! - Bez - 2015-11-16 09:51 Just ordered:
Going to wait until Black Friday to order my 980Ti RE: PC Upgrade time! - GT4tube - 2015-11-16 10:15 Good Upgrade. Wait, 980Ti? Really you want any games? you need i7 6700. lol... 980Ti Such OP. RE: PC Upgrade time! - Bez - 2015-11-16 10:30 i5 Should be good enough. I've never really seen the need of using i7's for gaming.. RE: PC Upgrade time! - Owl - 2015-11-16 15:23 Save your money and get a 970, the 980ti will be bottlenecked by the i5 and i7 due to its immense power at 1080p |
