Desktop Dragging - Tommer - 2012-02-08 18:27

(Windows 7 Ultimate)

I've this problem going on here, and wondering if it can be solved..

Dragging files between two explorer windows automatically moves the document..
Dragging files from the desktop to an explorer window moves the document..
Dragging files on the desktop to a folder on the desktop copies the files Confused1

I'm wondering if there is a way to change that copy to move, since it's not really what I want it to do and simply serves to annoy me lol..

Cant confirm that behavior. Maybe there is something else interfering.
From what I can see,
-Windows copies the file, if the target is on a different drive
-Windows moves the file, if the target is on the same drive

It doesn't matter whether the desktop is involved or not. Its only the drive that counts.

Ahh that would explain the behavior, yeah the folder on my desktop is a shortcut to a folder on another drive, thanks Chuck. I also figured out by hitting shift before releasing overrides it and makes it move as well Smile

Indeed - Shift forces move, Ctrl forces copy.

Or simply use the right mouse button and chose what you want Wink
