Better Forum Protection for Unique Users - Rocky7up - 2017-07-29 11:28

Dear [TC],

With some of the issues as of late, I was thinking of a system that could improve the forum security and make sure users are who we think they are, and actual genuine users of our community.

Part 1:
You could enforce LFS Username to be legit, and hard-link it to a forum account, to ensure no fake or double accounts are created by either abusive banned users or people who mean harm.

Part 2:
A way I thought about to make a system that could ensure no fake users claim another users LFS Username is to create an addition to the LFS Insim that can "Verify" a user as legit.

It can be as simple as after user has confirmed their registration, to make them use the LFS insim in-game to generate a code, such a system like for obtaining licenses, and to use that code connected to their username to verify their username as theirs. And hard-link it to their forum account.

This way it could and should be easier to know which user is who for the administration as well as keep unwanted people out.

Ofcourse this could be an issue in the case of a user losing their e-mail account and/or password for the forum login.

Well simple, since it's hard-linked to their LFS Account, they could use the insim to request a reset code. Smile

Just an idea that popped into my mind.

Looking forward to hear feedback!

Cheers,
Cholover7 / Rocky

we have already adjusted the forum sign up to combat some of the issues mentioned above.

We've considered in-game InSim verification before (and may well implement it in some form in the future), however quite a few people sign up to the forums because they've been banned from the servers - they wouldn't be able to apply for an unban if they can't verify the account in-game.

Can't you just let accounts that haven't been verified in-game only have access to the unban request category? However, those that have verified their account in-game would be able to access the other areas of the forum?
