New To Server - Saphira - 2012-04-16 00:38

Ok this is a long shot but, i was thinking about the amount of new guys coming onto TC just of late. So...
As we no chuck is an InSim genius, well i had a thought that maybe chuck can implement that is recognises brand new users that click on join TC servers, and on the screen once they have joined is TC rules with a 10 minute timer, in those 10 minutes they cant join/leave the pits, they have to read the rules, and then click "Yes Read Rules" and then they will be allowed to leave the pits. Or if they choose not too "No Rules Not Read" denied leaving of pits, with 2 minute idle kick

My moment of thoughts Smile

Agreed Smile this would get new people to read the rules, and also maybe at the end once they've clicked yes pops up a help message saying how to buy their very first UF1 Smile

I like it, BUT, you can't force someone to stay on the server to read the rules in a popup. What I've seen on a dozen of other servers, is that they have a popup when you log-in, telling some of the basic rules with a 'I Agree' button. I think for new users, that would be better than a force to read the rules, I think that would scare new players away rather to keep them on the server.

RE: New To Server - Saphira - 2012-04-16 00:49

In hindsight of what you said Johan its not scaring them away, its making them aware that TC has rules, but i see where your coming from though

RE: New To Server - McGherkin - 2012-04-16 01:21

You've just discovered TC, you join the server to see what it's all about, and you find that you have to wait 10 minutes before you can even drive. I doubt many people will actually last 10 minutes before becoming annoyed, disconnecting and never coming back.

As a measure of discouraging new players, I think it's a fantastic idea.

I'd prefer a tutorial tbh. Talk you through the features of the insim. I don't know how difficult this would be to code though, I suspect very.

You never know with Chuck arround though Tongue

RE: New To Server - BMW-gek - 2012-04-16 17:16

Is not going to work. For example, Cargame has a message: If you not able to choose a car your safety rating is too low. Go to S1 server to fix it. (Don't know the text exactly)

They click it away and a moment later they ask in the chat why they can not choose a car.....

RE: New To Server - Stevo - 2012-04-16 17:24

+1 to a message to come on for new users, all will have to do is include instructions how to buy a car and start driving basically. Many new users to server have no idea.

RE: New To Server - Savy - 2012-04-16 17:43

New people to the server 90% of the time will ask how things work, and they will always get a answer about reading the server rules before doing anything.

RE: New To Server - James - 2012-04-16 19:05

I can see a system like this working but the 'forced' timer would put people off. Sure would put me off. I know I can read and take information in fast so I could probably get through it rather quickly. Really, a 5 second timer before they can select 'I agree' could be better as then it would give them a chance to read some of the rules. If they read a bit more and a bit more, it will have sunk in and they can push I agree anytime then (After the 5 seconds). Having the most important rules like: No Ramming, English Only, No VOB mods would be something I would like to see as the first 3 as; There is usually someone speaking non english in the main chat, when they ram, suddenly they wonder why they get banned and VOB mods because it carries 1 year ban. There could also be a warning saying a swear filter is in effect then having the amount the insim fines would be placed there like so;

WARNING: Swear Filter is in effect- € 1000 Per Word

Plus, maybe a list of [TC]s' ? And maybe a list of teams and who is in them to give an incentive for people to maybe check them out and such. There are so many possibilities to this.

It may never get noticed but then it comes to the fact that if they didnt read the rules, its not the Admins fault. Its theirs.

RE: New To Server - Chuck - 2012-04-17 06:07

A useful noob-filter would be helpful. Like "How much 40 -5 ?". I know a certain percentage wont pass it Wink The test could be repeated once a month.

An information bulletin for new users would be great eg.
