Sound of VW powahh!

Jimmy, if you really are adamant on spending money on an old Golf III, why don't you start out with the GTI or VR6? I don't mean for this to be condescending, but I do have a hard time understanding how you justify buying performance parts for a 115(?)bhp car, when you can get the exact same model with a stock output of 148 or 172bhp, if I remember correctly.

RE: Show us your ride! - Jimmy - 2014-02-09 09:24

I know there is GTI and Vr6 but i cant have afford with those engines yet so i wanna try some different things what my engine can handle or not and i like golf 3 good as first car, i have fixing last year so it running stabil and that so its work much better with any troubles, need new exhaust system from catalysator it is so rusty and a hole in last muffler

Pssst.. Just let him do what he wants to do. Its not like you're going to lose money on his car build. Wink

I remember when I had my first car also, was fun to style.
But I learned that it's really really better for yourself if you save your money and buy a better car with it, because the styling and everything you will never get these money back and the car will only get older and stuff, Leon is pretty much right.

But still it's your first car have fun ! Smile

RE: Show us your ride! - Roba - 2014-02-09 13:34

I agree that people should do whatever they wish to their cars, if that's what they really want Tongue

I do that myself, buy stuff on my shitty car, and basically loose the money. But I am also saving for a better car, more rare, powerful and make that more unique, with more expensive parts.

RE: Show us your ride! - Jimmy - 2014-02-09 13:41

but when i did buy my golf it had no working clucth or gearbox so its only costed me 3000sek for car, had one gearbox at home did fit to it now its working good

Atleast Jim does have a car..

RE: Show us your ride! - Sebas - 2014-02-09 15:17

What prevents him from saving some money and put a VR6 or a GTI motor later on? From the looks of it, the body is in excellent shape and the inside looks pretty good. He can easily run the stock motor while styling and changing bits and pieces of the car while waiting for enough money to change engine.

Heck, that's what i'm doing with my Civic. No shame in that!

Continue on what you're doing Jim, great job so far.

It's a hobby, it doesn't need to make sense if it's fun.

Take it to the PMs, guys..

Back on topic please.

RE: Show us your ride! - Nick - 2014-02-09 22:53

I bought Giggle on the belief that the starter motor didn't work - turns out it does, it just needs a bit of juice in the battery, so now we can start her without breaking wrists on the starting handle every time.

Unfortunately it's not all plain sailing; the door top fell off. We knew it was needing replaced, but that came about a bit sooner than expected. Hopefully there's a temporary replacement at the breakers...

A few more pictures, the luxurious interior and meaty engine this time.

(you might be able to see a dark patch on the far door top - that's where it's meant to bolt to the lower half. Sadly, it doesn't do that anymore.)

(That mileage might actually be genuine, given the few miles it's put on over the last decade, supported by old paperwork.)

Looks lovely Nick Smile
But is she needing some air or does she have a broken spring or something? She's running a little lean, ain't she?

Something is different on the back of your car from an American one. It just looks different. And ignore their nonsense Jimmy, the VW 2.0 and other associated 8vs are some of the greatest motors in existence. You can get awesome fuel mileage and out perform plenty of cars. My little 8v beater keeps up with built VR6s.

Different tail lights and a wider license plate indentation, mostly. Biggrin
