Jimmy, its your car, dont care what the assholes and pricks say. Do it like you want, not like everyone else wants.

Well, my point was that if your car were to be stolen (which is worth 600 euros or so, including the sound system that makes up over 90% of the car's total value xD) you'd get more in return from the insurance company.

This. I'd rather want to get my car stolen if it was a piece of shit than have it, if you have insured it against theft.

And that looks much better Jimmy than the clear glass ones. Now just get some alloys and lower it.

Problem is, no insurance company will agree on putting the theft insurance in this lol.

Nice tank Kimmy. Smile

You know, you can put the lights you want as long it's cool regarding the law. Tongue

RE: Show us your ride! - Roba - 2016-02-26 19:11

It looks so much better with the stock lights though

Who gives a shit? As long as it's legal, Jimmy is free to do whatever he wants to do with his car. At the end of the day, it's his Volvo to enjoy and if clear lights, tinted or otherwise, make him happy then who are you to tell him he's wrong? Jimmy enjoys working on his car, and you're taking a gigantic dump all over his passion. It can be very discouraging to post something you're proud of and have a community tear you to shreds over it; I'm sure you wouldn't like it if we all laid into your Subaru.

The garage wanted £364 to fix this and get it through its MOT, or I can do it myself for less than £100 probably. The benefits of wasting two years doing mechanics I guess.

This is the age-long question on all car forums and different ones take a different stance. Is criticism allowed and to what extent?

My opinion is that criticism and opinions are necessary if you do this kind of public showcase. It's stupid if people just post their stuff online to gain praise and approval for the sake of their ego, and others can either give thumbs up or stay silent.

That's like a restaurant where they make bad food, because only the people who liked it give feedback and the others just leave and never come back. The quality of the food never improves because the owner thinks his food is great based on the feedback.

As a car enthusiast who occasionally likes to show off his work, I think one has a few options depending on what they actually want to achieve:
1. Opt for the route of maximum cred and ego boost, and build only based on the positive feedback. If the positive feedback is really the thing you're looking for instead of a personalized ride.
2. Follow your own taste, disregard negative comments. This is great if you want to keep your own ways but still show your work to people who might be interested. There's no need to get butthurt because you can never please everyone.
3. Do design choices based on your own ideas, but use feedback to think over them. If nobody seems to like design idea X, then could it be improved, or do I still think it's perfect the way it is? I wouldn't want a bunch of yes men around me when I'm asking for opinions (and posting pictures of your project is really just that.)

Jimmy's ideas for new wheels that I've seen were pretty sweet, and the exhaust job is pretty good now. I just don't like clear tail lights.

I dont think it's the critisism in itself that is bad, it is the quite douchbag way of putting it forward by some people.

You're right, purposefully being a douchebag isn't so great. And people can see different types of comments in different light, so it's not always easy to decide...

Imo a good way of getting your opinion forward is like "Nice work! But personally i like red and white glass better."
In a sentence like that there are not a ton of negativity and in the end thats what bring people down.

That is my opinion on the matter atleast Smile

That would be very politically correct, but if I don't think that it is nice work then I'm not gonna lie about it either. W00t And I don't want to be lied at, so it's just a matter of how you want to be treated versus how you treat others, I guess.

Got my new intake! Cannot wait to dyno it. Looks 10x better than the silly APR carbon fiber one! Sadly no more turbo noise however it now has a very hearty 16v noise Biggrin
