RE: Show us your ride - Tom - 2012-07-19 23:20

oh ok Tongue

RE: Show us your ride - Mongoose - 2012-07-20 07:06

Brad- the J1 sounds brilliant and I dont think it cost me much to insure. Hell, ive just stuck those alloys on and they only cost one off £19 to insure. Expensive for only 5bhp or so but it is noticble in a little car like the Fez. I'd get one just for the sound lol.

RE: Show us your ride - Alex - 2012-07-20 08:13

I think I might have to invest in one Tongue

Been looking at the Mountune website... Dayam...

RE: Show us your ride - Brad - 2012-07-20 08:23

Insurance company refused the air intake kit Sad Apparantly they do not allow any modifications which will affect handling, acceleration or power.

Ah well, looking forward for my new grille to arrive anyway Smile And Autoglass are coming to my work on Wed to fix a small stone chip on my windscreen Smile

You guys have to inform the insurance companies of everything you put in the car? Laugh

Well, anything that improves it's performance or handling - it changes the amount of risk on the policy, so it usually goes up.

RE: Show us your ride - Sanchez - 2012-07-20 20:31

My actual vehicles: A 93 Ford Mondeo 1.6 16v, which is now my "hobby" car, i did some changes, like changing the whole exhaust system, and installing a new FK system, a 300w Boston hifi, and it will continue if i will have time and money Smile. I've failed to upload pics yet, but i have a youtube video about exhaust sound, not the best quality, made with phone, but i think it's still ok.
My everyday car is a 96 Ford Galaxy 1.9 TDI, which is very very very confortable, silent, and still powerfull car. I will make a chip tuning for that car, which will wake up another 20 hp Smile
So here is the vid about the exhaust, pics coming soon

and you wrap it around a pole or just a little dent and you'll get nothing from the insurance company... sounds great.

I mean if the insurance is that bad in the uk just drill some holes in the "filterbox" and you'll get the sound you want. Open filter doesn't really give you any more power, usually gives you less as the engine now sucks in hot air.

RE: Show us your ride - Mongoose - 2012-07-21 12:46

Yeah Insurance in the UK is bad. Funny thing is, Ive got my filter/alloys ect insured but if the car is damaged they will still replace with original parts... unless I pay even more to have modifications cover(but thats only up to £500 worth, the alloys were more than that...) Grr. Rant over Smile

That's why the J1 is different, its enclosed once the bonnet is down, making it a large filter in a larger air box with a direct feed to the air, I helped Test it out. Good bit of kit for the little engine in the Fez.

http://www.free-press-release.com/news-fiesta-mark-7-air-intake-kit-improves-1-6-litre-engine-power-by-5-bhp-1289826517.html
On dyno runs most cars do them with the bonnet up, to keep ccool air flowing ect. When we tested with bonnet up it gained about 2bhp less than with bonnet down.

You are supposed to declare anything not fitted from the factory, even just tinted windows although not many people do. If you crash and the insurance companies find out the mods then you are *Removed* but alot of the insurance companies are dumb and don't even check for mods when you crash. Its a risk some people are willing to take and some aren't i guess...

Personally if i was to crash and i was only slightly injured i would try and get the car towed to a garage by a friend so the insurance comapny doesn't find out. Then you keep your ncb but just have to pay for the damage.

RE: Show us your ride - Mongoose - 2012-07-23 06:36

Working in the Motor claims solicitors for the claimants mostly, I can say there is plenty mods that are not noticed or let through the system. Is just up to people what they do or in the event of a crash how quick they can return to stnadard before someone checks the car out.

Its all well and good towing your car and if its your fault settling on the road side with some money, but what happens whenif the other side decides s/he's going to ring the insurance and says "Guy crashed into me and didnt give me his insurance details" ?

You cant turn round and say " oh we settled it on the road side"
