Looks like the brand that got a pounding for not putting IR filters on their laser pointers. I have one of the ones with an IR filter, it's a 5mW and has a range of about 30 miles. The visible-light to IR ratio is very high which is why going for the more powerful ones is not very wise. The only difference is, mine was given to me by my university as a piece of safety equipment for leading groups out on night hikes in the mountains. They're awesome though and everyone should own a decent laser pointer. Good ones start from like £20. (Don't get the £5 ebay ones). To save cost, most laser pointers don't come with IR filters, which is extremely dangerous: Best way of checking whether it has one is too look down the end (Whilst it's off) and seeing whether you can see a distorted reflection or an un-distorted reflection. If you see an undistorted reflection, there's an IR filter in it and it's good quality. If you ever get one, get a green one, shows up better. |
