The continent of North America is Canada, USA, Mexico and 20 other countries.
"America" is variously used to mean the Americas (the continents of North and South America), North America (which in turn is used to mean either the continent or just USA & Canada) or the United States of. The USA doesn't have a monopoly on the word America.
Scousers and Mancs are both British/English in the same way USA and Canada are both (North) American, so they can't deny that they're similar in at least that respect.
Oh, and the whole article is about Canada's part in NORAD (North American Aerospace Defence Command) and the website noradsanta.org, which was registered in the USA.
