I'd go with the Ford Focus. Most sold vehicule worldwide. Easy to get pieces and easy to repair.
Its fairly cheap, it doesnt cost a dime of insurance and you won't get mad if you crash it.
If you have these in your country, you could also aim for a honda civic/Toyota Yaris.
I'd go with the crew here, don't spend more than 2K on your first car, you're more than likely gonna scratch and bump it

X2 on the Yaris I had one as a rental car. So much fun, comfortable and got like a million miles per gallon. I forgot about the Yaris.

Why focus on the "sport" section of the cars? Most insurance will charge a shitload more money for that. The fact that he's young and that this is his first car will make it skyrocket.
My first car was a Toyota Tercel (the ancestor of the Yaris) and it cost me close to 800$ for "civil responsibilities" only. It was a shitty car with nothing sport about it. On the other side, my friend had the "sports" version of the same car and for the same type of insurance, it cost him close to 2000$!!
Think about it when you buy your first car. If you're younger than 25, anything with "sport" tagged on it will cost a fortune.

Probably because he asks for it in his opening post. And it´s not that big of a deal here in Holland for insurance. As long as you stay away from very new cars (3yrs old at most) and hugely fast cars, it's actually not that bad.

Know what you mean, bought a ford sieera 2.0 petrol, got a quote of rougly 4900 euro to insure a year with me as the driver, but with my dad as the main driver it was around 1500 euro.
But if you want a good car, you really should look into a ford, or a old suzuki.

Jesus your insurance is expensive for me with soon to be 4 cars (21 years old 4 moving violations and a not at fault accident) is like 2k a year max! With set values on the sonett and rabbit. My cost is going to go down further because my daily will be worth so little in a crash they will instant total it lol.

Oh god I'm sorry for you... My 2.0 DOHC Sierra is at ~800€ a year with me as owner... And it has a extended insurance or something, which means any accidents with the car will be covered by the insurance at any time, unless I'm at fault of the crash. (or something that way)

If you get a good deal on a good condition Sierra, and it doesn't cost too much, I suggest it. With seriosuly non.economic driving style I've been getting 9.5-10 liters per 100km in city... Which is not much for such an old 2 liter petrol car.
And if you get a Sierra, I will instantly visit you by driving in there

Don't leave QC, $2000 is incredibly cheap. In ON, cheapest I could get insurance quoted for is about $5000/yr as an 18 y/o with no insurance claims or tickets. I'm moving to Alberta and it will cost me $1200/yr.

Protip: Buy the car for around 6000€ and save the rest of that money for maintenance costs. They're inevitable.
