Although you're not supposed to, most people in the UK do move onto the pavement to make room, it's just common sense really.

Im just thinking about the part that says about if you are on a single lane carriageway with double centre lines and one comes up behind you. Would you actually just carry on because i think it is abit silly because i personally would just put my car onto the grass banking so the emergency vehicle wouldnt have to go on the other side of the road.
