RE: Fort Notch is back - Pipa - 2012-05-05 20:05

This is allowed and my sand machine is not?

A B.U.D. switch is commonly accepted as a redstone component, and it has been said that it will never be fixed as it's to do with the way pistons are powered, and they work as intended, therefore it's a feature, not a bug. Duplicating blocks, however, is glitch exploitation Tongue

RE: Fort Notch is back - Clockwork - 2012-05-05 20:30

Yes, bud switches are allowed on Fort Noth, and are a generally accepted Red Stone technique on 99% of servers.

Actually duplicating blocks however, like you were doing, is completely not allowed and you were fully aware it wasn't allowed when creating it. The wheat machine there involves no duplication at all and requires all the seeds and bonemeal you'd need for all of the output.

http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Tutorials/Block_update_detector

"The Block Update Detector, or "BUD switch", is a redstone mechanism that exploits bugs and quirks in the game in order to detect changes in nearby blocks."

I don't really mind, but it would be good to know what bugs i can use and what not. I do think both bugs have a similar effect or outcome by reducing the time spent to get either resource drastically. The conventional method of getting sand or wheat (even with a large farm) is much harder than a sand duplication machine or auto wheat farm. And the time saved with either bug is quite similar.

The rules have been updated to clarify what is allowed and isn't in terms of cheats/quirks.

Please see the forums for the new rules.
