RE: Version 0.6C Imminent - Zipppy - 2012-11-30 21:35

Patch frenzy much?

RE: Version 0.6C Imminent - Pete - 2012-11-30 23:27

I love it, people complain when no updates are released for ages and when they start being released, people are like, "Jeez, why so many updates?"

+1 Just keep them coming Biggrin

Well atleast Scawen is not letting us wait months with a few fairly annoying bugs.

Every patch is buggy as shit. Why not just release one pro patch?

RE: Version 0.6C Imminent - Mr. NB - 2012-12-01 02:54

I personaly love that feel, when i see that a patch came out after a long time. It feels great to make a fresh install of my LFS folder, with a new patch.

However, it is a bit annoying, when three or four patches come out in one day, with minor updates. Anyway, i am not complaining, hopefully, we will get those damn physics and VWS soon already.

Looks like that the cheat protection will need more working on Mellow - http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=1764108#post1764108.

He certainly got on Scawen's nerves, lol:

Scawen Wrote:Phlos used to cause a stir, he has the same kind of skills as this guy. But after he had his fun, I think Phlos would tell us how he did it. He certainly did on some occasions. This guy just wants to waste my time. I think he must be a kid, living off his parents. He doesn't work for a living and feed a family, that's for sure, or he wouldn't do this to us (and wouldn't have the time). He's just a trouble maker who enjoys feeling he has power. He does have power - the power to irritate me like a fly buzzing around my head, and make you wait longer for your updates. A pity he can't use his intelligence for something constructive.

Other Scawen's replies:

Scawen Wrote:Right, that is the same Anakin who did this in 0.6B. He claims to be helping LFS development, and said he achieved his aim by getting me back to work (actually taking me off the tyre physics and onto hacker protection - though I agree there was useful development of the multiplayer code). But he doesn't want to help by letting us know how he did this. If he would send us an email of explanation, that would help LFS development, because I would be able to get back to the tyre physics and some editor tools Eric has asked me for. But his current approach is not helping to advance the speed of LFS development.

Anyway, I would like to see a log produced from the host at the time he joined it, hopefully with the replay also recorded on the host.

Scawen Wrote:Thanks. I saw these replays posted on the other thread. In these, Skywalker has already joined the host before the replay starts. I would be interested to see a replay which contains the event of him connecting. It's possible that may give me some more information. Does anyone remember seeing him join the host, or was he already there when you joined?

[ In 5 minutes he could send us the information about how it happens, but he is having fun watching us wasting our time on this. That is the kind of guy he is. ]

Scawen Wrote:I said there had been some time out. So what after a decade of hard work?

And I am not blaming this Skywalker person for the length of time it takes to develop and the difficulty of a tyre model, or my need for a few months out after so many heavy years. But I can tell you that I want to get back to the tyre physics and this guy is stopping me right now. It's the truth, even if you don't believe me. This destructive child could take five minutes, to email us and reveal his clever method. But he is twisted and his joy comes from watching us wasting our time.

Even better for him that you want to take this opportunity to throw a little attack at me and I want to defend myself.

Scawen Wrote:He's not really the host, just an ordinary user with modifications. There are quite a few checks on user name validity during the connection process. I suppose that either his modifications go through the joining process in a peculiar way, or his user record is corrupted in the host after connecting. I'm trying to look through these possibilities.

As asked before, I'd like to know if anyone sees him connecting or has seen him connect at some point. Would like to see a replay if that happened in game. Or has he only joined empty hosts? Receiving his info when you join a host or when he joins goes through the code in a different way.

The solution must be simple. There can't be many ways this can happen.

About the development:

Scawen Wrote:- Quoted post: Scawen: Tyre physics and core updates by all means, but that does not explain why Eric cannot release any new content what so ever. As i recall, it's him thats responsible for that? The new physics cannot be an obstruction for new content, as the current physics are still great. -

I have explained this many times in the past. I'm reluctant to say it again, because I expect that I am just opening the floodgates for a barrage of questions and various detailed explanations of why our strategy is absolutely ridiculous, why we are being dishonest and so on.

But here goes... and unfortunately this is once again, a historical text that I have said over and over again. We planned to release the Scirocco then soon after, Rockingham (the start of S3 content). But we discovered that it was impossible to make the car handle realistically or safely while using realistic settings. So I thought, let's take a few weeks and sort out this tyre model. That took me on a long journey of development. Never did I think, what a waste of time this has been, let's go back to the old flawed model and start releasing the things which we haven't released because of the flaws in the tyre model. No, we still want to sort out the tyre model before releasing anything.

This is absolutely not that Victor and I are wishing Eric would release new content and he is refusing to do so. That is one of the false imaginings from certain people in the community. We want to sort out the tyres then release the VW and then Rockingham and other things as planned.

- Quoted post: Eric is very bad at dropping by here on the forums, is he even active and working at all? Some information updates regarding the situation would be nice. -

As I've said, over and over and over again, Eric is working on new content. You just will not believe it. Eric doesn't post here because he doesn't like the way some people take any words we say, twist them round to mean something completely different then hold them against us. And because any minor slip up in our text can lead to years of seemingly personal attacks. I'm reluctant to make this reply, as I said, this normally ends up drawing me into ridiculous discussions until I just have to unsubscribe or close the thread. So I can understand his reluctance to post here. It would be nice if he did, but he doesn't want to.

It is interesting to see him replying often, even though people jump on him right away, with off-topic questions. This is probably why we get to hear from him, that rarely.

RE: Version 0.6C Imminent - Zipppy - 2012-12-11 17:18

yeah I read, shame. I hate it when people "troll" with cheats and hacks.
it automatically makes them seem like a person who doesn't have a life or even care for themselves or other people.

also,

Glad to see Schwaen actually taking a stand. He seems to be a great guy and doing his best.

And about LFS forums, I am glad to finally see a forum that takes user reports seriously. I was supporting a suggestion about fully open maps (south city etc) and this guy straight up attacked me. I reported the post, it was reviewed, edited and he is "no longer welcome" it's awesome to see a staff that doesn't allow people to get away with anything they want! He even had over 4,000 posts! Words cannot describe how these two instances have impressed me with the LFS team!

RE: Version 0.6C Imminent - James - 2012-12-11 18:27

I feel sort of disturbed that so much hate is directed towards these people when (for all intents and purposes we can only take their word for it) they are working hard to get all kinds working properly.

Its not like the developers have to give us updates. Really, we paid for the License as it was. For all intents and purpose, we paid for S2 as it was at the time of our respective purchase times. Whether that be, last week or when S2 was purchasable.

Really, its not like we've paid money for S3 yet so really. No one can complain or flame the developers as much as what is going on.

James, you have a promising career in HR in your future lol
