LFS Gets DirectX 9 (Test Patch LFS E12, Now E14) - Pete - 2014-01-20 17:50

Scawen has updated LFS's graphics engine from DirectX 8 to DirectX 9.

There's nothing new but this opens the door to some nice DX9 features like shaders which improve things like shadow generation and lighting.

You can download the new test patch here:

https://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=1841963#post1841963

Do not install it on top of your current version, make a backup and install it on top of that instead.

Sweet. Will TC run the beta version or wait for the official release?

Patch works on TC severs.

Slightly off topic but: On the one hand, it's nice Scawen hasn't entirely forgotten about his community. I wish he just put his time into something more meaningful (e.g. actual content)

Tire physics are really important, you know?

Of course he hasn't forgotten about it.

It seems that you don't understand why he would put his time into this rather than content so here's the thing.

DX9 will make adding stuff like weather, time of day, proper lighting and shadows, a lot easier. Once this has been tested, there's nothing standing in his way to implement these things.

This means that when the devs come to add new cars and new tracks, they don't have to fiddle around with hard-coded shadows and stuff, DX9 will do most of that for them, saving time.

Indeed, he hasnt forgotten about LFS. He wants like all of us that the game stays alive.

Its sad to see the discussions going on LFSForum, multiple threads asking for S3 or Sirocco, instead of appreciating the effort they are putting into it, even if fixing small things or like this time , implementing Direct X9 , which will help a lot in the progress of the game.

OT: Tested the new version, not sure what causes it ( Probably DirectX ) , but my fps are locked at 60.0 on windowed mode, and go higher in full screen mode.

But the normal LFS ( without Direct X ) doesnt lock my fps on windowed mode.

Any clue? Probably its so on purpose.

VSync is on, regardless the settings in window mode. Not sure if Scawen is going to change it or not.

I really hope so I hate vsync

Scawen knows about the VSync problem. If you put LFS in fullscreen and turn VSync off, it will be off.

Many thanks , Smile

Scawen Wrote:IMPORTANT : KNOWN ISSUE!

After you start LFS, you need to go into Graphics Options and make sure "Haze effect" is switched ON (the default setting) before you try to enter the game. Switching off the Haze effect causes a problem when LFS tries to create the vertex shaders.

Progress! There's still hope!

RE: LFS Gets DirectX 9 (Test Patch LFS E12) - Warped - 2014-01-25 20:32

One step forward to S3.

RE: LFS Gets DirectX 9 (Test Patch LFS E12) - Roba - 2014-01-25 20:54

"1 step forward 2 steps back..."

RE: LFS Gets DirectX 9 (Test Patch LFS E12) - Warped - 2014-01-26 05:28

Let's hope not in this case. Wink

RE: LFS Gets DirectX 9 (Test Patch LFS E12) - Kille - 2014-01-26 06:01

Hmm nice Thumbup

I tested it and it does huge fps drop.

RE: LFS Gets DirectX 9 (Test Patch LFS E12) - Kille - 2014-01-26 07:48

Maybe its locked to 60fps i think

RE: LFS Gets DirectX 9 (Test Patch LFS E12) - Chuck - 2014-01-26 08:30

Windows seems to enforce some kind of v-sync. Not necessarily bad.
