Improvement to Kyoto roundabout. - McGherkin - 2014-11-23 17:06

At the moment, the Kyoto layout has a bit of a flaw - the roundabout.

Currently, when travelling anticlockwise, cars have to move into the fast lane in order to keep going on to the roundabout, and this has caused a lot of conflict and a few crashes.
Usually this is either because traffic in the slow lane gets taken out when moving across to the roundabout, or by fast traffic swerving across at the last moment when they realise that they're on top of the roundabout in the wrong lane.

My idea is to do what is done IRL - end the fastlane before the junction, and then shape the road so that the traffic is pointed towards the roundabout, with the option to turn off right without too much hinderance.

It brings the fast lane traffic down to safe speeds and makes it safe for slower traffic to continue on to the roundabout. It prevents dangerous last minute overtakes and conflict over who has right of way.

Submitted is my revised .lyt for your consideration. I know it'll need cleaning up a bit but you get what I mean.

I noticed that myself Mcg, really good idea.

Cones would be good.

Sounds like a good idea, could prevent several crashes indeed. +1 if there's enough free objects left.

Its a good idea , but i never want it.. it had to be more slow for control for the S line.. so its a -1

Really like this, nice idea. (+1)

Sounds good, i have always feelt like the roundabout area was a bit messy.

This is just added to the current TC layout, so there's enough objects to do it Smile

By the way, I've driven it at 130mph without stuffing it, so if there is no traffic you can still get through it pretty quick - it's not something you'd have to slow to 50mph for.

you still need objects to roadblocks Smile

You clearly haven't been wiped out by a fastlaner there then Wink

Ah, didn't think of the roadblocks bit - no doubt the few objects can be saved from elsewhere in the layout.

Great idea, this could bring more safety into driving.

Sometimes when I cleanly switch to left lane, turn on left blinker, slow down and approach the roundabout, a clever speeder crashes into me from behind and causes a big traffic accident on roundabout, so I clearly vote +1, because this could possibly eliminate all wrong excuses from these speeders who cant admit that they have done something wrong.

Chuck's fixed this now, a bit better than the way I suggested. Should be much safer now Smile

Thanks!
