Huge Fire at the Bathurst 1000 - McGherkin - 2011-10-09 13:04 Driver was David Besnard. Very rare crash this, the fuel cell ruptured, but the fire started away from the car. Great work from the marshalls, could have been very nasty for the driver if the car caught. RE: Huge Fire at the Bathurst 1000 - Pete - 2011-10-09 14:38 Crickey. RE: Huge Fire at the Bathurst 1000 - Tommer - 2011-10-09 15:14 Blimey that looked very dangerous.. Marshal's did a good job RE: Huge Fire at the Bathurst 1000 - Dentzo - 2011-10-09 16:55 wow.. but where the hell did the fire come from? How did it start away from the car? Exactly what I was thinking, I have no idea, except maybe someone dropped a cigarette in surprise RE: Huge Fire at the Bathurst 1000 - Stephen - 2011-10-09 22:09 The track was warm and it caught fire afaik RE: Huge Fire at the Bathurst 1000 - Malibu - 2011-10-09 22:39 Does that fuel ignite at such a low temp? RE: Huge Fire at the Bathurst 1000 - Pipa - 2011-10-09 23:43 That looked nasty. Imo something hot like the rear brake discs or something ripped off and did ignite the fuel after it landed the fuel had the right oxygen mixture. RE: Huge Fire at the Bathurst 1000 - Knight - 2011-10-10 09:30 Alright, Its all over the news here cause im Aussie What happend was the driver drove to the corner without pumping the brakes after a pit stop change, He had no brakes and hit the wall. V8 Supercars run on 90% Ethernol, very flamable, It spilt on the floor and was ignited by momentary sparks (Apparently anyway) The marshells were VERY brave to flight that on such a fast area, and also Ethernol burns clearly so the bits of fire you see is stuff burning off, The marshels could have been easily killed by invisible flames. RE: Huge Fire at the Bathurst 1000 - McGherkin - 2011-10-10 21:58 Well amen to that Knight. I'm not surprised if there's some doubts raised as to the safety of the fuel cells used in the V8's. This is the second big fire they've had this season. This was the first.
