5120x4096 is so I don't have to resize logo's for them to match with the skin, so it's more like 1:1 ratio. I can't describe it in English haha.

Some video cards (or their drivers) may fail with textures which dimensions are not a power of two (2,4,8,16,32 etc), or are not square. No idea if that's still an issue these days, but if somebody complains, that could be a reason.
