You entered the roundabout the wrong way, which is a dangerous move as traffic was on it.
Except for VR players, your perception is not the same as usual due to your limited point of view (use of button to see your side, fov, etc).
By estimating the position of the visual sirens and how it closes by, I would have thought you were entering the roundabout on the correct side.
Which in addition of that, his lag, judging by how your car reacted to the crash, could have made him misinterpret your position.
