Individual mute/block command - RevLeon - 2023-02-21 14:47

I'm sick of chat spam and useless public conversations that I don't care for nor do I want to fill up half my screen with whenn I'm trying to do a chase and follow my colleagues instructions. I'm suggesting a simple fix which is !mute/!block username command which lets you individually block chat messages from certain users ONLY FOR YOURSELF!

Unfortunately it is physically impossible to program a feature which blocks/mutes messages in the main (public) chat.

In a chase situation, it may be best if you block messages using the subtract (-) key. I think you will still see InSim messages (eg PM, cop chats).

Could main chat not be passed through like a Global channel since there is channels already implemented into the insim and that way messages coming through would also be insim messages.

Ps. Thank you for the - tip, I will definetely be using that duringn chases

Then that would mean you’d have to use a command before every single message. Why should there be a different channel for the main chat when the game provides that as a feature already Biggrin This is just a pointless suggestion overall. Just as BP said above, use the subtract (-) key to block all messages.

is this not a rule on most servers to not do so admins always can contact you via chat?

there is also this option

I don't know if it's a rule on most servers? But it's not a rule here.

Also, making the chat miniscule isn't useful for the OP, for reasons he has stated.

You can press the (-) key to mute chat - although insim messages (when someone gets busted, when a bonus of a player is publicly shown on chat, for example) are still shown. But if you press Shift + (-) it mutes every single message, whether it's posted by a player (regular chat), posted by insim (just like the ones mentioned earlier) or by the game itself; although I think that the messages shown when someone enters or leaves the server [i.e. AnansiMaxine has joined (thesevenofclubs)] aren't filtered by this last function.

So yes it wouldn't be good if an admin is trying to contact a player that has everything muted and they'd get punished for no reason - although they'd notice if an admin returns them to pits, then said player would unblock the messages and the admin could talk to them.

IMO "**not** muting everything in chat" shouldn't be a rule, my argument is mentioned on the previous paragraph.

EDIT:
"it mutes every single message (...) although I think that the messages shown when someone enters or leaves the server (...) aren't filtered by this last function."

They are indeed muted if the player uses Shift + (-).
