License costs - Tommer - 2023-12-15 13:13

I don't play LFS so much these days, maybe a few times in a year.

As a result, the license costs for [COP], [BUS] etc mean that I will eventually be unable to enjoy [TC] because the few times a year I log in, I have to buy some new license. I don't have that much money left on account these days.

Regulars may not have noticed it, but the barriers to return to [TC] get higher by the year, making it harder than ever to just hop on and play cops and robbers.

The question is this - Should [TC] Servers be something that is only for the enjoyment of regulars? Or should oldbies who don't have that much time for LFS anymore still be able to hop on and do what they've always done?

Hi,

I can't seem to see any suggestion here. Did you post in the wrong place?

Onto your question:

Everyone should enjoy TC, not just regulars.

However the 2500 Euro cost to take the police licence test is frankly not a lot.
Also, it is even easier to jump in and play due to the recent vehicle renting updates.

Buses didn't even exist until around 2 years ago, so naturally no license was needed until they came into existence.

For now, I think this thread should be in General Discussions as you have not suggested anything. Thread moved.

I guess your favourite Forza's are the newest ones because they have no progression, you get super cars instantly.

Just play on the server for like 30 minutes or an hour and you can get the money to buy one of the licenses, it's not that hard...

Could you clarify what you mean by vehicle renting updates? what changed?

You can rent vehicles and still earn income. Furthermore, you may be able to choose a vehicle which has some equipment/property already on it.

Ignoring the antagonism, realistically, an hour. More when you consider the time taken to actually take the test. And that's for just one license.

To someone who plays LFS every day, this is nothing. To someone like me an hour is the entire time I had to play LFS.

As for progression - I would say it is actually not progression. After all, a license renewal is just that. It's not something new that you've earnt through progress. It's you paying to keep what you've already earnt. The toll is much more expensive for someone who only plays LFS two or three times in a year than someone who plays LFS 4+ times a week.

As an oldbie myself - I think the license cost is fair.

You have to pay for licenses and tests irl too.

It's honestly not that much money and the license itself lasts a year.

RE: License costs - Carl - 2023-12-15 21:39

2500 you can earn within an hour or two on some maps - I don't see the issue.

You can remove element of progression and it will become boring quite quickly.

RE: License costs - Matt - 2023-12-15 23:13

There's also another point you're missing here: the annual renewal forces every single licensed cop to do a test, every year. That helps to keep standards high, if you don't have time to earn the test funds then I'd hazard a guess you don't generally have the understanding of the somewhat evolving copping situations (i.e. bikes, newer TC lights due to beta updates etc.) and thus wouldn't be especially good at it.

I remember you, you were ok, but honestly the license cost is fair - your lack of time for it is the issue you face unfortunately. I appreciate what you're saying, but the benefits outweigh the drawbacks by some margin.

RE: License costs - Tommer - 2023-12-16 01:16

Oh don't get me wrong I've got no problem with re-taking the cop test itself once a year and can see why that's a good idea. It's ten minutes and it's a refresher. It's purely the cost associated with renewing licenses that I have a problem with.

Consider that I logged on probably like 5 or 6 times last year and copped maybe 3 or 4. I just barely earn the money I paid for the license back before I have to buy a new license again.

And that's only if I have just one license. What if I have two? three? It just means that practically speaking, unless you're a regular on [TC] the experience is not so great.

Most games usually do something for a player who has been away for a long time to help them get back on their feet. In trackmania, you get some coppers if you don't log in for a few months. MMO's give you items to help you recover. In [TC] this could be making the next license renewal free. Just a suggestion.

Tommer, you have 16k which is easily enough to buy every possible license/license test

Your wealth is 313,000 which is not far behind me.

You have more than enough money. Your money doesn't disappear when you're inactive.
Third richest person has not been online in 8 years.

I don't understand why you have a problem TBH
