2 Suggestions - !backup improvements & !move improvement - BP - 2012-07-23 19:08

Hello everyone, I have three relatively simple ideas that have probably been thought of already but I can't recall seeing any threads about them before.

Suggestion #1 - Improvement to !backup

Explanation: During my time using the servers, I've noticed (and many other people have most probably noticed) the problem where only one backup call can be in progress at a time.

This is annoying because you have to wait for 30 seconds to call backup if someone got it before you. It's especially annoying when a cop is somewhat desperate to get a suspect and he keeps using !backup before you can.

A solution to this problem is that each backup request could be allocated a number. At the top of the screen the backup requests could be stacked from where it is normally. Let's say maximum 5 at a time to avoid your screen getting filled up, but I doubt there'd ever be 5 at once.

To join a chase, you could !join [number of chase displayed at top]. Of course the number would be chosen in order of the cops calling backup. For example:-
[COP] x calls for backup (this would be #1)
[COP] y calls backup (this would be #2) etc.

As this is only an example of how the number would be assigned, it would not show the number on the backup call message itself, but at the top when it says who it is.

Advantages: No more waiting until you can call backup because someone else has done it before you.

Disadvantages: People would have to write one little number at the end of !join. Surely this is not even that much of a problem.

Backup Sub-Suggestion:

At the moment anyone can call !backup in a chase. Only the person in the chase longest should be the one to !backup, therefore I'm suggesting that the insim would throw up an error to someone who does !backup when they were not in the chase for the longest period of time.

Suggestion #2 - Improvement to !move

Explanation: At the moment, people rarely look at the chat and ignore !move, and !siren etc.. my suggestion is to make it even more obvious. Similar to the message you get on your screen after 5 seconds of !chase, you'd get a message saying 'move' on your screen straight away. Unmissable. I think this would slightly increase the amount of people who actually move for sirens...
Advantages: Might make people move more frequently.
Disadvantages: None. Feel free to point out some.

TL;DR?

1.) Make !backup have slots so you can !join (chase number) to avoid waiting for someone else's backup to expire.
1.1.) Make so only the person in the chase longest can !backup.
2.) Give people a move message on their screen when someone does !move against them.

Hello BoyPower.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
#1 Backup Suggestion:
Isn't better idea , just type !backup and the username from the cop leader , as you said the cop who more time is on the chase , for example !backup BoyPower , and a message that says '' Username Is Joining on BoyPower's Chase. ''
( As Example ).
------------------------------------------------------------------------
#2 Move Suggestion:
At my opinion, if that insim button is located at the same position that the '' STOP POLICE '' from failed to stop, some drivers will have his view blocked depending on the camera they use and aswell some people haves his car camera ''Moved a bit up or down '' , so if every time the cop types !move appears that message in the middle of your screen , probably will interfere in rob's view zone.
E: Aswell some cops abuse sometimes from !move command , thing that will cause a spamming on his screen and a long time blocking his view.

Thanks for take the time reading this.

Frozen, in my opinion what I've suggested is less time consuming and more efficient than typing the usernames.

Regarding what you said about my move suggestion, well, fair enough but surely there can be a workaround.

Well BoyPower.

Nothing else to say about that Backup System , cause it's a nice idea to be honest.

Just the #Move Suggestion is a big doubt cause...

-Big Insim Button like the '' << STOP POLICE >> '' When fail to stop , will cause the block from user's view.

-Small Insim Button : No one will look on it.

My idea: Make the MOVE Button , like the ''CAUTION'' one, Small , not blocking the driving view , everyone looks on it.

What you think?

Something like this: ^ MOVE ^

Every system has its flaws, but it's only occured to me that there is a very slim chance that there would be both 'Move' and 'Stop' on your screen (like, the big ones actually on your screen, that's what we're talking about) at the same time. The "stop" on your screen is only at the beginning of the chase. If the cop does !stop again in the chase, it will only be a normal insim message, not on your screen.

EDIT: Anyway, let's see what other people think! Smile

RE: 2 Suggestions - !backup improvements & !move improvement - Frozen - 2012-07-23 19:43

So you mean for example this situation:

BoyPower Failed To Stop.

I type !move 1 time , appears << MOVE FOR POLICE >> ( ON SCREEN ) To MR.Z For example.
If i type !move again , Appears MR.Z << MOVE FOR POLICE >> ( AS MESSAGE )

?

Nope that's not what I said. I said it's unlikely to have a big "STOP" and "MOVE" on your screen at the same time, because the "STOP" on your screen only happens once in the entire chase. Smile

Let's see other's opinions Thumbup

RE: 2 Suggestions - !backup improvements & !move improvement - KaraK - 2012-07-23 20:10

I agree with the !move addition, however leave the !backup and !join as they are Smile

RE: 2 Suggestions - !backup improvements & !move improvement - Chuck - 2012-07-23 20:39

There is still another problem with the !move command: Cops simply don't use it properly.
Ive seen many cops not using it at all, they probably don't even have a hotkey assigned, and others tend to spam it and expect the other to disappear instantly.
The correct way lies somewhere in the middle.

RE: 2 Suggestions - !backup improvements & !move improvement - Kyllone - 2012-07-23 21:10

I say leave the !backup as it is Tongue

Now, as chuck mentioned, I can say im a one of those who dont have a bind for it. And im not going to put one Tongue But it could be a nice idea to have the big MOVE in your screen but again, there is the spamproblem.

Could it be made something like when the cop puts the !move, it Flashes 3-5 secs on your screen and by that time, the cop cant put a new !move, otherwise it gives a error or something.

Dunno, just some idea Smile

RE: 2 Suggestions - !backup improvements & !move improvement - ChrisM - 2012-07-23 21:29

IMO, I'd say things would be better if people just used !move as is (correctly if possible), not they're "Do not interfere bla bla/kickban mumbo jumbo". Thats just ignorant and hard to read.

I get quite pissed off when cops spam !move when I'm already on the grass/side of the road, clearly aware of a chase coming. If cops could properly use !move as it is now, I see no further reason to change it. Just my two cents. Smile

E: With regards to the !backup suggestion, I rarely cop, so I won't try and guess whats good or not good for the server Tongue

RE: 2 Suggestions - !backup improvements & !move improvement - James - 2012-07-23 22:05

I am sick and tired of COPs spamming the move command even after ive moved over and given them and their suspect plenty of room.

Ok lets say it would be on for 2-3 seconds, If the message was sprawled accross my screen for more than the allotted time of one push (ie. a COP happened to push the button 3 times), Id call that spam and it could be easily abused tbh. As it would block the view of the civilian hence slowing and putting other road users in danger, along side creating danger with a possibly erratic and speeding suspect etc.

On another note.. I have to say, it sure would make me think twice of going on if I couldnt see.

RE: 2 Suggestions - !backup improvements & !move improvement - Elmo - 2012-07-24 00:38

1. Not a bad idea, but I foresee space issues. The current bar would fill up fast, maybe only having space for 2 calls. There's no room for an overflow bar below.
However, a cycle command of some sort could allow you to rotate through multiple concurrent backup calls - your !join command would then join whichever call is currently displayed the bar.
(A similar cycle command could also be useful for the laser/sticky laser)

1.1 Been discussed before and not going to happen. The cop who's been in the chase the longest isn't necessarily the best one to know that backup is needed.
The lead cop is often in a better position to know what's going on and currently is the one who should make the call most of the time. Even cops behind probably shouldn't be prevented from calling if the chase clearly isn't going anywhere.

2. Could perhaps work, but as Chuck says it's currently overzealously used by a lot of cops, although it being shown on screen for a few more seconds is probably less spam than five lines of 'move' in the public chat. It could probably be placed reasonably high on the screen so as not to get in the way too much.
Having it in the chat can be useful for admins though.

Also, moved thread to correct section.

RE: 2 Suggestions - !backup improvements & !move improvement - Tommer - 2012-07-24 13:12

I really like the idea of the !move thing bringing up a box like Stop Police.

The reason I like it is because whilst I'm cruising, i'm largely not paying attention to the chat but the road ahead.

With Something in a box saying "Police Clear Way >>>" in my line of sight I'm more likely to quickly react than to text which depending on how busy the chat is could be well out of my line of sight (ie, if nobody has said anything for a long time, it will appear at the very top left corner of my screen where i'm definately not going to see it)

If admins still need to see this !move we could keep the text one too.

A solution to the spam would be to limit the use of !move to every 3-5 seconds or so, no?

=====

In regards to the !backup suggestion, i'm not so keen on it - Because it just means more hotkeys to me. However perhaps changing it so you can only call !backup 30 seconds after the last backup call timed out, so that other chasers have a chance to use !backup would be a good suggestion that would help evenly distribute cops amongst chases.
