Just bought it from Steam. Oh my god it's good!

RE: F1 2012 - Brad - 2012-09-21 12:30

Ohh, tempted! Much better than 2011?

RE: F1 2012 - Johan. - 2012-09-21 12:38

Is it really good, good? I mean, when I bought 2010.. I got pretty disappointed Sad

RE: F1 2012 - Hasu - 2012-09-21 12:39

Im testing first F1 2012 demo and maybe gonna buy it

RE: F1 2012 - Brad - 2012-09-21 12:43

Same, I wasn't impressed with 2010 or 2011, I'm gonna download the demo and give 2012 a try though!

EDIT: Downloading in Steam now. I'll have a go at it, and post back! From the videos I've seen/reviews I've read it does seem a step up from last year, fingers crossed!

RE: F1 2012 - Kyllone - 2012-09-21 16:24

Well someone get a video or tell how it feels like? Biggrin

RE: F1 2012 - Brad - 2012-09-21 16:42

I've tried the demo, but there are no setup options and so I can't really judge how it feels at the moment. (e.g. brakes feel horrible, but can't change the setup to increase brake pressure. Also, the car under steers like a pig - again, I can't fix this yet)
. What is clear is that multiple-monitors aren't directly supported - i.e. no options to adjust bezel compensation, or off-set, which is annoying.

I am currently 5.8GB/7.6GB into the full download, so will see once I have a go on that.

RE: F1 2012 - Brad - 2012-09-21 20:04

I've just did the first race... Not as much development as I would have hoped for unfortunately. Physics are still flawed, and leave you second-guessing what the car will do next (in my opinion, anyway)

Not overly impressed, but will play it from time to time.

RE: F1 2012 - Elmo - 2012-09-24 01:26

Please tell me they've fixed the broken FFB that was in the demo (ie really high feedback, then suddenly nothing as soon as you get understeer)

RE: F1 2012 - Pete - 2012-09-24 01:37

Nope, that's still there. Really frustrating. I use no force at the moment until that's fixed. There're more FFB flaws than that Elmo.

Here goes.

Since this is the first F1 game I've bought in 5+ years I'll probably be able to give it a decent "first-timer's" review.

- FFB: Sucks, it's so messed up it's untrue.
- Wheel Turn: Linearity is out by miles even when linearity is set to full. I find this really annoying.
- Graphics: The graphics are really good when you finally work out how to set it all up properly.
- Gameplay: The car mirrors are so useless, it renders cars when it's too late, there's no way of changing this either. Apart from that, gameplay is pretty fun.

Best points for me:
- Time Attack + Time Trial modes are pretty fun
- Racing is very addictive once you get over the terrible wheel controls or find a wheel setup that is less painful

Negative points:
- Wheel + FFB settings: The worst of any racing game I currently own.
- Rear view mirrors: The rendering is utter crap and you can't see a car behind you until they're right up your arse.
- Screen resolution & full screen: Once in full screen, you cannot alt+tab without having to shut down the game afterwards because you can't get back to it. My 2nd monitor is 1440*900 yet there is no support for this screen size.

Overall after 2 days of testing: I don't like the majority of the game. The season mode is cheesy because of all the press and "e-mail" stuff you get shown. It's a little too complex. I really wish it was about the driving and not about the faff behind the sport.

Above I said: "Oh God it's good", that was because I played a time-trial. The best part of this game is the time-trial section because it's just you and the track.

Disappointed.
