Sound for the radardetector - BMW-gek - 2012-12-23 23:19

Is there a sound for the radar detector available? That little red bar doesn't get my attention. So I hope there is a sound available or is it possible for Chuck to implend that sound in the insim,

For who doesn't know the sound: Had a false alarm detection for example

Please Chuck BlushingThumbup

Unfortunately, it does take a chat message to attach the sound to. The radar warner doesn't send any chat messages and probably wont do, would be too spammy.

If the red flashing button isn't enough then you probably aren't being observant enough. I don't like the idea of an audible radar-warner as it gives it away a bit too much.

The problem is that my screen is too wide. The red flashing bar isn't in my sight so it doesn't get my attention.

So just a couple of beeps would be nice, normally a radar warner would try to jump out of my dashboard.

Would be an awsome feature, but should be optional(buyable?).
in high resolutions, insim stuff is smal, I prefer watching the road and traffic when speeding, so I would buy an audioble option for sure Smile

Regarding chat spam: is it not possible to send pm to the insim, in other words hidden?

To be honest, I don't even think there should be a radar, but I can put up with it. Surely just seeing a police car parked by the road would make you want to slow down in case it was a speedtrap?

The new RED SOS button kinda takes the punch away from the radar detector. It no longer catches my attention.

I too would like to have an audible warning for the radar warner implemented as the current button is simply not enough.

What you guys forget is that screens come in a huge range of sizes an resolutions and on some monitors the buttons are simply tiny and you need superhuman 20-20 wide sight vision in order to pick up the tiny movement of the radarwarner. Having to keep your eye on such a tiny place is inconvenient and distracts you from the most important thing; the road ahead.

The whole point of the radar warner is to give away radars so if it doesn't do its job then why have it in the first place?

I disagree that sending a chat message to the user would be spammy. At max your likely to pass a radar warner every 2 minutes on a smaller track like south city. but generally the event is rare, it happens no more than cops get backup calls.

In my opinion you should atleast give people the option to have the sound on, or make it a 5k upgrade. Currently for users with screens and eyesights like mine the radar is as good as useless.

You do know that the human eye* has evolved to be exceptionally good at noticing small movement/changes in the peripheral vision right? It's kind of handy to know if some camouflaged cat with very big teeth is creeping up on you. You're actually more likely to spot a small isolated motion in the peripheral than if you're looking directly at it.
The lower resolution has nothing to do with it; detecting changes/movement is mostly down to the brain's processing - and frankly the same applies to 99% of vision. The eye itself actually only sees maybe a 3cm diameter circle worth of detail at the distance of a computer monitor.

As Lamp said, what detracts from it is the proximity of the similarly red SOS button. The SOS button would probably be more useful in some kind of green or light blue.

*Technically the brain, see above

I can't see why it's so hard to put a little option for an audible warning. Honestly being flexible enough to give users an option won't kill [TC]..

Yes, some people can spot the small changes in colour, no, the red SOS button is not to blame. I had this same problem before the SOS button had been implemented, the button is hard to notice if you are concentrating on the road, tried and tested believe me you know how long I've been playing for..

Noticing small changes of colour is not easy especially when you are driving because the scenery around you is already changing colour. To concentrate on a wide screen hard enough to see the change of colour in the corner of your eye can cause eye strain, you should not have to concentrate this hard on driving.

Like I said, how hard is it to implement an option? I think you should cater for everyone rather than remaining rigid and unmoving because you can see it fine..

I hate to be so pushy but I wouldn't be complaining so hard if this wasn't such a big problem..

It's not completely the SOS button's fault, it just makes seeing the radar warner even more difficult.
