Wonder why? RE: "Steam Hacked, Valve Investigating Possible Credit Card Theft" - Fujioshi - 2011-11-11 01:42 Ughh, i really hope they went alphabetically. RE: "Steam Hacked, Valve Investigating Possible Credit Card Theft" - Kayla - 2011-11-11 02:17 tbh steam's own fault, leaving such important data nearly unprotected RE: "Steam Hacked, Valve Investigating Possible Credit Card Theft" - Hexta - 2011-11-11 03:36 A company with such a high share of the PC gaming market, you would of thought they'd of secured their forum and database. RE: "Steam Hacked, Valve Investigating Possible Credit Card Theft" - Stephen - 2011-11-11 06:12 Anything is hackable if people try hard enough. The bans that are handed out so often on the forums don't help them either, many angry people that would want to do something like this. I doubt Steam would have used low grade encryption because they didn't think anyone would hack them. RE: "Steam Hacked, Valve Investigating Possible Credit Card Theft" - Brad - 2011-11-11 08:24 I'm sure they are going to have quite a big fine if they can't prove they had good measures in place to prevent it - but just like the Sony case earlier in the year, it's the effects on their reputation that will really hurt them. All they need is a PCI certificate There's no evidence to suggest credit card details have been taken yet, but there's no evidence to say otherwise either. RE: "Steam Hacked, Valve Investigating Possible Credit Card Theft" - Stevo - 2011-11-11 11:44 "Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users: Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums. We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating. We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely. While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well. We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password. We will reopen the forums as soon as we can. I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience. Gabe."
