FlightGear
Hello lads,
I know there's a topic "presenting" this game, but he's quite old, from 2012, and there wasn't anything about the game itself, so here is the "official" presentation of FlightGear: Firstly I'm going to introduce this game: FlightGear is an open source flight simulator, available on Windows, Mac, and Linux (main community). FlightGear date of first release was in 1997, which is pretty old, but this game is still popular today. This game even offers a Multiplayer system which I find nice for a '97 game. The game uses the SimGear physics engine, and TerraGear for the render engine, which enables you to use the real date, hour, weather, and much more. Now here's my impressions on this game. Though this game is quite complicated to use when you're starting to play at flight simulations, this game is really fun, due to the fact there's a multiplayer, a LOT of tutorials, and a bunch of planes, from the big Tupolev Tu-154b to the little (but well known) Cessna 172. I can even do some tutorials on it, as now I'm pretty used to it, with my poor 50hrs with a 757-200 Someting really nice is that this game now uses as default the TerraSync map engine: it downloads every tile you cross while your flight. It requires a lot of place, but if you have a good bandwidth, it's quite a nice system to use. Here's everything useful (for me, I surely forgot some websites): FlightGear main site, to download it: http://www.flightgear.org/ FlightGear Forum (en): https://forum.flightgear.org/ FlightGear Wiki (if you want to know how to use AP etc):http://wiki.flightgear.org/Main_Page Tips: -use a joystick (or at least your mouse): this game isn't enjoyable with only a keyboard. -try some various planes, for obvious reasons (lol) -Play the game as realist as possible, it's quite hard when you start, but after some hours of gameplay, you'll see that you'll become curious with all these buttons, and all these integrated systems in your favourite plane. (and stop using this damn Autostart ) -last but not least, be used to crash. Doing mistakes in this game is quite easy, and it can cause your plane to crash in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Don't worry, reset the situation and retry. (I did a lot more of crashes at start than a 4yo baby ) To finish this topic, if you want to share videos, streams on this game, tips you found, tutorials, post them here (if you want, no one's forced to ). It will help newbies to play better. Pictures of the game while doing a Moscou-Nice flight with a 757-200 (in Spoiler): Spoiler (Click to View) |
