After just causing the server to crash, I think I'll take a break from TC until I get this sorted

RE: Why does my internet suck?
As I said, try to do something with the wireless signal strength.

RE: Why does my internet suck?
Well I think its proven now that your WiFi connection is crap.
So you either switch to a wired connection or you fix you WiFi. There is no guaranteed recipe to do so, but there are many things you can do about. 1. Eliminate interferences - Check if the used channel is chosen wisely. I know of an android app called "Wifi Analyzer" which can show you whether there are other networks overlapping with your frequency. Example image: link Using a mobile app to check has also the advantage to check the reception strength at different locations. At least roughly. Even if you don't see an Wifi network interfering with yours, it could help changing the channel anyway because there could be other (non wifi) devices using that frequency for some reason, which leads us to the next point. -Remove possibly interfering devices from the vicinity of your antennas. On router side, as well on your PCs side. Every power consuming device causes electromagnetic radiation. The farther they're away from your antennas, the better. Especially those which made for "radioing". Like cordless phones, base stations, cell phones. -Better placement of the antennas. Ideally there should nothing between both antennas. However, thing of metal should be avoided the most. 2. Increasing the signal strength This one is tricky and should only be approached if you can already rule out the interferences. There exist some ways to do that but all of them basically require monetary investments and do also partly rely on pure luck Some options would be: -Replacing the antennas with "better ones" -Replacing the router with a better one -Using a wired connection as far as possible and then attach an Access Point (best chances) |

RE: Why does my internet suck?
Look, if Tesco do good groceries, they do good internet too, okay?
On a more serious note, are there any specific settings in my router I should post that might be causing the issue rather than just changing everything willy-nilly? |

RE: Why does my internet suck?
I'd recommend using home plugs instead of WiFi. As has been suggested, see if your router is operating on the same channel as a neighbour, ideally there should be a difference of 5 between the channel (1, 6, 11) your router and your neighbours' is operating on, although you don't have to do this, it is recommended. If your router is near a cordless telephone or large metal surfaces, e.g. a radiator, try and relocate it and see if there's a difference.
It may also be a line fault, if possible try and connect your computer to the router via ethernet again, and see if you're able to reproduce the same results. If you do, then it's not the wireless but instead a problem on the line or/and with the router itself. What is your wireless signal strength when connected to the router? You can see this by putting your cursor over the networking icon in the bottom right hand corner. Link to home plugs. |

Posting here over and over again wont certainly help anything. You asked what you can do, now get up your butt and do it. Otherwise stop asking. |
