!t command adjustments for translating swearwords
Let me just start by remind that these two theads exists:
https://forum.city-driving.co.uk/showthr...?tid=38192 https://forum.city-driving.co.uk/showthr...?tid=38640 Now given the fact that these two topics are rejected, so far. Let's jump into this one. So if someone swears in a language other than English, and another player decides to translate this non-English message using the !t command just to understand what is being said, he/she risks getting fined 1k if the translation contains a curse word. Wouldn't it be better if the translate insim filters out these swear words before posting it in mainchat? So for instance instead of blindly translating litterally anything that's being put into the !t command, the insim will filter out any swear words, avoiding the player getting 1k fine unintentionally. This could either be by the insim censoring the curse word in the translation output. For instance: Player : This game is [censored] amazing! Or, the insim could reject the translation output all together if it contains one or more swear words: Player : [this translation is censored due to swear word(s)] Or, and this option may be easier to implent into the insim, but doesn't remove the swear words: The player using the !t command is the only one who will see the translation output, and it will not automaticly be shown in mainchat. I myself am not really fond of this last option, and I would rather see the curse words being blocked in any language. Or even better, take care of people speaking full blown non-English conversations in public chats, but this seems to be rejected for now. |

RE: !t command adjustments for translating swearwords
How about just being less curious and not translating everything?
or use google if you're gonna do that? If someone writes something in their native language in public chat, it's not going to be mostly loving words. When you translate the message of the person who writes to you in their native language, you are making the same mistake as them, how logical do you think that is? |

RE: !t command adjustments for translating swearwords
I would rather an additional !t command which allows the translation to go to the command sender only.
If someone is speaking non-English in public chat (not allowed) and you can't understand what they're saying, the message likely isn't intended for you anyway. |

Maybe we need to change our view on this whole 1.8 rule. I feel like people here are quite on the defensive side when it comes to this rule. Abit like "rules for thee but not for me". What if you guys (Redmins/Chuck) just remove this whole rule altogether? Maybe it doesn't bother people that much when players speak non-English. Maybe we can just agree to have this rule more like a gray area? So "offically" it's not allowed, but if you still do, it's fine. Personally I would be fine with this. |

RE: !t command adjustments for translating swearwords
I agree with Speed and BP here. If the message wasn't indeed to you, there's no point in translating it. In most cases, messages sent in another language aren't pleasant. In some particular cases, I'd even risk saying they're an attempt to avoid the swear filter in moments of frustration.

RE: !t command adjustments for translating swearwords
Marty, I think the "speak English in public chat" rule exists for a good reason and should not be removed or altered.
If the rule didn't exist, then you would likely be seeing a lot more messages you wouldn't understand, whereas now it is only a few here and there. |

So it's best to just ignore it altogether, correct? Just live and let live. and if an admin happens to be online, he/she can deal with it, if he/she feels like it. Gotcha. Tslm for your response B |

Marty_Deslions Wrote:Okay. So it's best to just ignore it altogether, correct? Just live and let live. Generally yes, but where an admin is not online, feel free to forum report those who are clearly and consistently breaking the server rules and don't care upon being told. That includes speaking non-English in public chat. That is usually the best way to get definite action. You don't necessarily need a replay for that either (if solely chat offenses where replay context isn't important). |

This is not entirely true; I have been sworn at in other languages and i can assure you the messages were directed towards me. Shit, I was called a "son of a bitch" by a Turkish player simply because I nerfed my FZ TURBO 4 mod. Many times, when a message was displayed in another language I used !T and found out the hard way, but since I'm a multi-millionaire in >[TC]< City Driving I just ate the fine. |

RE: !t command adjustments for translating swearwords
only issue i see here is the translation is wrong.
"Zajebisty" (F'ing nice) like a vulgar positive but not necessary is it a swear word. Full actual translation of that is: "How bloody nice is this track for this car" with the obvious word stated above |

There are players from all nations on this server. They chat on their own private channels. Most Turks use a translator (not all Turks) |

RE: !t command adjustments for translating swearwords
Many players refuse to speak English despite knowing the rule and pollute the general conversation by adding swear words to their sentences.
Let's take this as an in-depth example: A driver causes a 2-person accident in the game that was his fault. He rebels by adding profanity to his short words and shares it in the general chat, but you can't understand it. (The shared message is probably directed at you) If I was the victim of the accident, I would want to try to understand what he meant to me (or you) and I would do it with the !t command, which minimizes the time I can spend. Also, unfortunately, I was recently victimized by this kind of situation and was fined by the system. What I'm trying to say is that translate !t is the command that helps us the most in terms of time and knowledge in the game. And I look forward to any useful suggestions under !t. I also agree with what Marty said and suggested. |

RE: !t command adjustments for translating swearwords
Looking at the outcome of the poll, I guess it will just stay the way it is. We just need to be careful with translating other player's messages using the !t command, or maybe even better, don't use !t at all unless you do not speak English yourself.
And for those breaking the english-only rule, I guess we just have to tolerate these people. Yes, officially it's not allowed but hey if an admin is not around why should we worry. Just live and let live. This thread can be locked. |
