The Judges basicly said 'Ok, here you go Brein, you now have the previlidges to tell the ISP's to block the IP's / DNS records of TPB". Thats already to much. Here in Holland we have a little saysing. "Give a finger, lose a hand". As in, you help them a bit, and they will try to get more profit of it then you actually meant to give them. And then it won't just be TPB being blocked, but more and more website's would follow. Yes, it is avoidable by (as XS4All customer) turning on IPv6), or using TOR |

Oh comon, we all know Brein is right, but we just want to be able to get free stuff. On the other hand, Brein is wasting time and money, these websites will always exist, block one and another one pops up.
Btw in Finland the same thing happened some weeks ago iirc. |

Brein is everything BUT right.
Did you even read the link of KaraK? Read it, again. And read this one to: http://tweakers.net/reviews/2446/brein-v...aaien.html |

RE: Your download speeds/pings?
I don't see how they are wrong, only thing is that the court makes a weird conclusion lol. Fact is that torrenting is illegal, thus the distribution of torrents should be blocked to enforce the law.

RE: Your download speeds/pings?
Wrong again. Torrents in general arent illegal. Haven't you seen how much legal stuff there is on TPB? Linux distributions, open source things.
Next to that, TPB isnt hosting anything. Its just giving you the direction to download it from, nothing more. Next to that, even if your downloading, that wouldnt matter. As long as your not uploading (according to the dutch laws) any copyright-breaking stuff, you'll be fine. Why do you think Usenet is so popular? |

RE: Your download speeds/pings?
Torrenting is the exchange of files, which means downloading AND uploading, thus illegal. And TPB is encouraging people to break the law, which is why it should be blocked.

RE: Your download speeds/pings?
Alright, have it your way. In other (your) words, P2P is illegal?
Here, read this, as I think you don't really understand the P2P network. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-torrents.htm |

RE: Your download speeds/pings?
Why do you think I don't understand torrents?
Yes, it is illegal when it concerns material for which the author hasn't given approval. People saying this is unfair censorship just want to be able to get payware for free, and we both know that. Try judging from a non biased point of view |

Why would you install a gate, if there's no fence connected to it?
Would you like, Holland, to end up just like China? Tons of censorship, and a company telling you wich sites you are allowed to read? |

RE: Your download speeds/pings?
Fact of the matter is,
Blocking TPB is no different to blocking YouTube as a whole. There are many illegal videos on YouTube, should the whole of YouTube be blocked because someone might watch copyright material from the wrong channel? Or upload? In much the same way, there are many illegal files on TPB, should the whole of TPB be blocked because someone might download an illegal file? Or upload? Now let me edit this paragraph one more time. There are many illegal files and websites on the internet, should the whole of the internet be blocked because someone might access or upload illegal content to it? These services have legitemate uses and cannot be held responsible for the actions the user takes. It is not the websites fault but the users only. I'm completely against internet censorship for this reason, it's plain stupid and ill thought out. If you want to stop piracy, you have to provide a better service than the pirates. Welcome to the real world, nobody has an infinite wallet so the government might aswell get over it, all the 'losses' companies claim aren't losses because they wouldn't have made it in the first place. |

It makes no sense to make such a comparison.. @Nammi Youtube actually manages the uploads, they remove videos when there's author objections or someones privacy is being made public. TPB does not do anything against illegal material uploaded, they are actually aiming at these product as probably 95% of the uploads is illegal content. Therefore Youtube and TPB are far from the same. And the website actually is responsible if they purposely offer illegal services to theor customer. |

Obviously it's censorship.. but it will be censored not for political purposes but to protect authors from their work being stolen. Censorship in China or Korea can not be compared to this censorship, and if you really think it's similar then I am not going to continue this. You are just defending the providers because you are one of their customers and don't want to pay for payware, this has nothing to do with our freedom on the internet, it's like allowing shoplifting because you claim the freedom to do this. Maybe you should judge this from an authors point of view. And as for TPB offering freeware, they can easily filter payware torrents from their website, they just choose not to do so because it's what makes them so big. |
