RE: Speed trap
!Speedtrap is fine as it is.
This server has always been rife with those who disregard the rules of the road and general "good conduct" while driving. This allows [COP]s to in a faster way, remove these trouble makers who want nothing more than a quick run around the server before they don't realise that hey have just been banned for having -5000. This helps with potential trouble makers who shunt other vehicles, drift, ram constantly and while I am at it. I asked myself, how many of those players who reached -5000 would have gotten bored and started to ram ? Who knows. Maybe more than 60% ? Static speed traps are a great idea and would be useful if they were placed near "accident" hot spots or coming up toward junctions since no one looks or even slows down for them half the time. One idea I had was have some (like an Autobahn speed camera) speed cameras have to be activated by a [COP] with a short idle timer of say 10 minutes before it automatically stops and then has a half hour cool down before that same [COP] can re use it. They would get a percentage of the fine (depending on the fine for speeding depends on how much they get) hence the idle timer and cool down period. kon4a Wrote:Even tho I would +1 for putting the fine money in a raffle or some other stuff. It gets split between the top 3 voted [COP]s on the server ? It might help promote better [COP]ing outside of chases. Nice idea though. You get a +1 sir! |

RE: Speed trap
There's two elements to having stationary laser areas. In real life (at least in Britain) you have ANPR units. Some consist of one sitting in a remote hidden location with the ability of speed gunning those who drive past and are over the speed limit. This is the equivalent of a player on TC sitting hidden and hitting !laser. Then, a unit further down the road (usually at a junction, where the speed is reduced) the ANPR interceptor intercepts the vehicle and performs a traffic stop on them; also possible with TC - and works quite well.
The other element is fixed, stationary speed can which are the equivalent of speed traps on TC. Difference is, in Britain, if the speeding is considered minor then you'll get a £60 fine and 3 to 6 points on your licence. However, you have to pay that yourself, where as with speed traps on TC, you have no choice and the money just disappears. Therefore, I prefer the idea where speed camera lasers are sent to cops; at least then the suspect has the opportunity to pay the fine or run. |

This sounds really good, even though (as a COP) I wouldn't like the percentage of the fines for me, as it would encourage people using the cameras as much as they can. What I would like, is a new role, which is basically speedcameraman, qhich would make some extra profit from placing speedcameras somewhere, and wont be able to chase or participate in a chase. Just like the mobile CCTV or ANPR units. (2015-05-21 15:25)Dan Wrote: The other element is fixed, stationary speed can which are the equivalent of speed traps on TC. This sounds really good, just I think there should better be an option like a car gets flashed, a screen shows up saying "You've been speeding, pay the fine" and to buttons "OK" and "RUN", therefore a cop is ONLY notified when a person decides not to pay. Adding to this, the license points sound like a nice additon |

That's the only other alternative to the !speedtrap command. This would be more realistic IMO. Even incoperate average speed check cameras for Westhill when roadworks are on the track. So lets say the "suspect" being chased doesn't get fined by the speedtraps, but it lists a bank and at the end of the chase. IF you are caught it will add a minimum of €100 ontop of your failure to stop fine. Speed cameras do slow people down, yes for a very short distance but, this again add's some realism towards "City Driving". If we want to slow people down for a LONG duration and keep them at a certain speed limit we would set up AVERAGE speed cameras. More info on Average speed cameras >HERE< I find it quite funny that because you and others choose to speed, you moan about loosing money. Lets just remember speed is not a main priority on a cruising server, although chases do have high speeds (above was explained oh how chases could be handled with static cameras) |

RE: Speed trap
pls pls pls dont reward ppl for doing nothing. cops are rich enough. and robbers pay double/triple whiile providing the fun to the cops... but i alrdy said that all in the other thread.
___________________________ €: its not even about the money. i just dont wanna satisfy some lazy cops who sit there and have fun doing nothing but basically annoying (some) players. they bring absolutely no plus in gameplay nor do they interact with others. i lost over a million by speeding, less than 20k to traps. i still hate them. |

Yeah, I like the idea of having the option to pay speed trap fines and failure to do so, will allow the police to chase you. In reference to the licence points, I was merely using a real life example. We don't really want an entire new system built that involves driving licences. |

The driving licence points would be to limit trolls with powerful cars, for example, if you keep doing the same thing over and over, you get, e.g., 2 points for each (e.g. constant drifting) offence, when you get to, for example 20 points, you get forced to a less powerful (or and FWD) car. But that's off topic Plus the licence could be linked to the username (kinda as it is now with the XP points and paid fines, etc.) |
