I was driving along, lost a lot of power, no lights came on, temp was fine, coasted to the nearest safe place, oil pressure light came on, started sounds really bad with lots of metal on metal noises, EML light came on. Opened the bonnet, oil was everywhere, noticed the OPS was leaking but the oil level was still high enough to show half way up on the dipstick, opened up the oil cap and noticed that the cam was sitting funny. So had to take everything apart, remove that part of the cam, meld the OPS together so it wouldn't leak any more oil, removed the injector and drove it home on 3 cylinders, although it would barely do 50mph. Just ordered a new camshaft and OPS, only going to cost £62 to fix if nothing else is damaged from this. Although I do need to hurry up and find a new car. |

Has this engine ever been rebuilt?
could be the camshaft wasnt torqued down equally Edit: apparently its quite common, id be checking the valves.. or at the least a compression test on those cylinders.. |

Most engines these days I think are interference engines, my '85 corolla luckily wasn't when the timing belt lost a few teeth xD

Was finally arsed to run power to the boost gauge light. Now i just need to find a red bulb "hat" to make it fit the rest of the red light theme in the interior.
Oh, and #VolvoMafia Dw, the V40 is on alloys, tis just a old pic i found. |

Yeah, id need to tidy that part up, otherwise they are tucked in and hid. Its just the boost gauge end that needs tidying

I doubt it will have damaged the valves/piston with the way it had broke. I've been looking for a new car for a while now so this just kinda forces me to buy one, but face-lift Toyota Corolla T Sports are proving hard to find locally

If part of the camshaft has stopped turning (which it inevitably will after half of it has been entirely dislodged ) at least some valves would have been left open when the pistons came up to interfere. That would often mean instant bent valves. |

From what I've seen online no one has had damaged valves/pistons as a result of this on these motors, it's a common fault which is why I'm confident as it is well documented online.
