Threaded Mode | Linear Mode

So I just got a new PC and am trying to download LFS again. However, it says I need DirectX 9 but I swear that's an older version than what comes with Windows 10? (Which I believe has DirectX 10/11 built in)

So I tried to download it, still doesn't do anything, or maybe I have to activate it or something, I don't know.

Anyone got any tips or know what's wrong? I never had to download DirectX 9 for LFS before, why have they got to be so awkward...

Well considering I'm able to play much more graphics-heavy games on Steam, surely they're all installed?

Also, this PC is my brother's old one so everything's still going to be intact, rather than everything having to be downloaded/installed again.

Even if you're running other games fine, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.

Thats not a totally unknown problem. LFS somehow is weird with direct x and wants the direct x 9 seperately installed sometimes.
You went here https://www.lfs.net/dx9 and followed the steps?
Have the netFramework installed?

As mentioned above you require DX9 separately installed. You can download it from the link

You still need to download the dx9/10/11 dll's to make those versions work, they're not backwards compatible with each other in that regard.

I've uploaded my d3dx9 dll's to test, put them in system32

I thought LFS would tell you which dx files you were missing though..

The thing with DirectX (and a lot of other similar runtimes) is that a lot the builds are not fully backwards compatible. Because in this day and age where hardware is powerful and memory is cheap, it's easier to just have multiple builds installed simultaneously than keep track of everything working on the newest iteration. W00t

Windows 10 actually comes with DirectX 12.

"You must be running Windows 98, Millennium, 2000, XP or 2003 to install the DirectX 9.0." This is what I've been getting every time I try to download it.

I've tried to do the old trick of changing the Windows package you have, still doesn't work.
