New command for COP / RES [PLEASE READ]
Hey guys,
I was playing the other evening when a call came in that someone had crashed on HW1. Myself and a few other units from the police, ambulance and fire service also made their way to the scene. We found a vehicle had flipped over the wall and was unable to move due to being on its roof. We decided to try and help the driver. It was a complex incident, which resulted in a whole carriage way being closed in one direction, plus one lane on the opposing side, to allow for a contraflow system and also movement of the emergency vehicles! It was a super realistic, and super fun scenario which sparked some great ideas and some quick thinking, particularly from [TC] Ash; he spawned barriers, cones, signs and warning lights all over the scene to prevent further accidents, as well as making big announcements appear across the screen which warned and notified other drivers of the incident, and to avoid the area. This appeared to have great effect, and sparked an idea in my head. A few people I've mentioned the idea to have agreed with me in saying that it may be very beneficial to COPs, TOWs and RESs - I was saying to Ash how it's a shame people outside of TC can't be trusted with spawning items, as undoubtedly it would end in chaos.. My idea is to add a new command available to the 2 emergency, and one voluntary (that being TOW) which automatically creates a message in bold writing across the screen (the same way admins can), stating that there has been an accident, with the road name and whether it's closed, open, or just partially blocked. That's the basic idea, the ability to broadcast a message to all people in game, simply notifying them of any on going incidents. I was thinking an !announce command could be useful, however that wouldn't allow for the customisation of letting others know whether it was completely closed or just partially blocked, as the command would just run a set script. The other option would be to have a system a bit like the ticket menu, where you can select a preset option to allow for more realism / info. For example, there could be a drop down menu where the HOME button is for when in SZ, and it could bring down a menu which had options such as: INCIDENT TYPE: (FOLLOWED BY A LIST) ROAD TRAFFIC COLLISION, HAZARD ON ROAD etc etc. STATUS: (FOLLOWED BY A LIST) CLOSED, OPEN, PARTIALLY BLOCKED, DELAYED etc etc. Clicking 'CONFIRM' or something along those lines, would print the message across the screen with the selected details, and automatically pickup your location by making use of the !direction command. I feel this would be a crucial system for the emergency services within TC to use, as it seemed to work the other evening, and would also add to realism. Not only that, but if respected, it will genuinely prevent further accidents, further chaos and unwanted, unneeded arguments from arising. Cheers for reading my ramble - I appreciate it could take a while to build / design / put in place, but it really would be great, so let me know what you think! |

It sounds unnecessarily complicated to me, and might be annoying as well. Not to mention it sounds like a lot of work.
Good effort though. Also, moving to the correct forum. |

RE: New command for COP / RES [PLEASE READ]
Sounds like an interesting idea but I fear people will overuse it.
Also, people already ignore sirens, cautions and hazards on their screen so I don't see how they will start to pay attention to this kind of warning. Finally, most people in the rescue scene already use !location and !direction into a bind which already informs people to be cautious at said crash site. It's a well thought idea but I would prefer that admins focus their free time to some other ideas. |

I think having the option to spawn objects as COP is great, maybe make an application system or test system that you must complete in order to use it. As for the messages, I can't say I would enjoy having those popping up on my screen too frequently. I think it would be more realistic to rely on the !hazard to alert people of danger. |

Good that people are pitching in their own ideas. I'm hoping that we can come to a conclusion to allow something!

I think that the problem is that we're getting used to seen to much Hazards/sirens and not respecting, so, I think that the problem is in adding more stuff, its on respecting the actual one.
Its a great idea also, but as mentioned, I dont think that its necessary cause the problem is that are not respecting the actual one. |

That I agree with too. My other idea was regarding a fine for exceeding a set speed past a hazard, and if you hit a police roadblock above a certain speed you'll also get a fine. That way, if instructed, you can still pass, but not get fined. A hefty fine to those excluding in chases should help people slow down a little and have some respect. |

Would be very interesting, but it would quickly get overused and annoying.

I wasn't intending it to be used for every little incident, just a warning for very serious, big scale incidents that will 100% / have caused accidents. A timeout limit would be cool so it automatically pops up every so often. Saying that, we've been having a lot of Highways announcements placed at the bottom of the screen where the Ads go. How about using my suggested announce feature to write a small detailed sentence at the bottom near there. |

The idea is nice and I think it can come to good use, warning drivers that there are some serious incidents can prevent accidents, also it's easy to add because the command already exist for [TC] Members so simply allowing [TOW | MED | RES]s to use the same command but with automated message ( Towing zone: +!location )that will automatically be removed after 5 seconds.

What I was thinking, and didn't write in the OP, is that it displays it for a short period of time, not constantly. |

It would be good, however, there's just too many imbeciles on the servers to trust every Tom, *Removed* and Harry with a TOW/MED licence, to use it appropriately.
It would be nice if you gave a TL;DR for your suggestion, as I can imagine a lot of people won't bother reading your post due its length, which would be a shame as it's a really good proposal in my opinion. |

No, you don't control what will be written, its just like the !location cmd but shows up to everyone in their screen and not in the chat, like an rcm. |

What's a TL;DR?? It's a useful feature. I would say you'd have to apply for the ability to do it, but it's a lot of messing about with insim and very time consuming for admins. |
