RE: More admins
Shit will go down if you start giving moderator/admin rights to people who aren’t real admins. IMO admins are doing good and rarely there are situations when admin is not online(especially on evening) or not reachable in Discord.

RE: More admins
In my opinion the "sufficiently good at copping" aspect of admins is quite important and shouldn't be disregarded. Cops and Robbers is what the server is in essence, and a lot of the issues people report or complain about on the forums or in the server happen as a result of bad copping or bad escaping so I struggle to see how an admin without any real and recent copping experience would be able to handle those situations appropriately. Sure, you can rely on "The Rules" and "Theoretical game knowledge", but actually engaging in the activity that people often report is something that's hard to replicate through just reading rules. Of course that admin can ask for help from someone more experienced but then we end up with the same problem as the original admins will have to spend time on the same report anyways.
However, I do see the opportunity with Marty's moderator idea. It DEFINITELY needs some extra thinking to make it viable, but I would be open to seeing some active and trustworthy members having the opportunity to make the lives of admins and the community easier. |

RE: More admins
Moderators with less privileges does sound interesting, although I can imagine it could just result in more work for the Admins. Let's say a player doesn't agree, with the decision of the moderator, that would just result in more work for the Admins. That's just one issue with the idea, there's plenty more.

RE: More admins
Im waiting till summer so when the recruitment opens I can apply and hope for good result. For me it's like eh okay being an admin is fine cuz sometimes admins aren't there when someone is breaking the rules, I know they can't be at two places in the same time.

False, there are MANY times where chaos is occurring and no admins are present. Especially if you're in the Americas, our 20:00 is your 03:00, admins are long asleep. |

Well, hopefully people in those timezones actually apply in the next open recruitment which I believe BP said is Summer. The servers could do with more admins yes but I don't think randomly giving access to people is a good idea. |

RE: More admins
@admen
Any updates on this idea of having moderators added to the TC team? Has it been discussed internally? |

(2024-05-02 20:41)Marty_Deslions Wrote: Maybe the introduction of a pilot/trail function like a moderator would be something that could solve it? Like people that are known to the server and the system but don't necessarily are cops can have some minor admin rights online. So for instance they can warn people and maybe report them to the "real" admins, so they can properly find a consequence for that player's behavior. Or the mods can return people to spawn, or restrict them to UF1. Or the moderators could even get abit more options by giving them right to kick and ban players, tho this may be abit too much for a pilot. The warnings/kicks/bans made by the moderators shall be reviewed by admins when the admins have time. And they can steer the way the moderator does that, or even discharge the moderator if he doesn't seem to fit the team. and (2024-05-03 08:19)Chuck Wrote:(2024-05-02 13:22)Berni25 Wrote: Maybe there are more people interested in joining the team when the requirement of being a cop wouldn´t be an essential point. |

RE: More admins
Giving admin rights and access to URS to people who aren't capable of being admin is recipe for disaster. Giving few people rights to spec or pitlane wouldn't be very useful as they couldn't deal with any really problematic people with only those two commands.

RE: More admins
Yes, this has been discussed internally but it's very unlikely we will ever see "Moderators" or similar as you're suggesting.
It just opens a can of worms and may not even be very effective or worthwhile in the long run. If someone wants to help us out, that is great - they need to apply during the recruitment. Any rejection would more likely be in relation to attitude or general character rather than driving ability. If that's the case, we also would not want to have them in any sort of Moderator position anyway. As I've mentioned earlier in the thread, we just need admin candidates to have an ability to cop safely/within rules. Any half-experienced player should be able to do this. This is actually quite important since cops and robber gameplay is still a fundamental part of the server. This suggestion may be considered rejected for now. There are unlikely to be any further updates. |
