Autotest Events
Done an Autotest today in the little Pug. My 2nd ever time doing one, and first ever time in the dry. Was using normal road tyres.
6 runs in total. After the 1st run, I had a time of 2:11.1 in total. By the 6th run, I had a time of 1:29.4 in total. A total decrease of 42 seconds. This meant I also won the award of "Most improved" driver of the day, and won myself a lovely trophy. I also was only 13 seconds per lap slower than the fastest driver there. And with no mistakes, i'm sure I could have been a lot closer. I damaged my O/S (drivers side) wing mirror after not looking when reversing back and demolishing a cone with my mirror. A bit of black insulation tape and it was looking new-ish again. Atleast until I fit a new one. One poor 106 blew his clutch. Only 2 weeks old too (you wil lsee the car on run 5 video below). Recorded run 5 and 6. Run 5 starts a bit late, but only lost about 15/20 seconds of it. I'm planning on doing another one in December, and if I can, one even sooner than that again, so ill keep this thread updated when I do them. Also with photos when I get them etc. |

RE: Autotest Events
Well.. A good few months on and i've realised that I am too much into rallying not to do these Autotest events, so on sunday, I decided to do another one. First time doing one in the GTI.
After discarding almost everything I used on the blue car, I was left with only 2 gravel tyres. The weather had been bad all week, so I thought that gravel tyres and rain would work perfectly, so left it at that. Sunday morning came and.. oh wait, whats that? Sun. :/ Anyway, cracked on with putting the gravels on and done a couple of practice runs before starting the event officially. I had literally no grip and the understeer was immense; but I certainly loved it. The power was perfect for the layout. I went out to practice using the car and came home with an award for Most improved and I think The Best Spirit too Very happy with that. I had a few comments from people saying how nice the car was, how fast it was etc so it was something I was rather proud of. Nothing went wrong all day other than a brake light bulb blowing, so changed it quickly after a run Heres 4 videos. A practice run and 3 official runs. My next one is now hopefully on the 22nd, at the same location. Also, hopefully with full slicks too. |

A lot of Motor Clubs do this sort of thing. A Basic one is generally £10 per car plus you will need membership for insurance purposes. |

It didnt grip at all, it just understeered everywhere and wheelspun on any little bump or turn. Hopefully some dunlop road tyres will be better this time If all else fails, Tarmac tyres lol. |
