Hazard limit
Hiya,
We've the problem that only a few amount of people slow down for the hazard at the moment, often many keep speeding because they think they'll get away with using the grass.. or speeding through that narrow gap between the cars that's just about to be closed by the tow etc. My suggestion is to combat the number of people who do this, by introducing a hazard speed limit. People will see the hazard sign from the set distance that they normally would, and once they have travelled 80% of the distance from here to the vehicle using the hazard sign the new low speedlimit will kick in giving users a fair amount of time to safely slow down. I'd recommend setting the hazard speedlimit to around 30mph. Why? Because people won't slow down to 30mph. But when they've a 30mph speed limit I think they would slow down to atleast 50-60mph (think about on the AB or highways) to avoid losing serious money where they were previously travelling 120mph+ I don't think cop's should be able to chase people for breaking the 30 limit because speeding with a 30 limit will be punishing enough with serious loss rates if you don't slow down. Obviously this could be misused but I think that as long as the punishments for misuse are clear to the cop's this won't be a problem. Just an idea. |

RE: Hazard limit
I don't like it.
Too many rules are being applied. In the end it's just gonna be as Denmark. Can't do shit here. Anyway, my point is that if we continue with all these rules, in the end people wont follow them, get banned and wont have the ability to come back to TC. Two years ago when I joined TC servers the first time, almost both servers was full. It isn't like that anymore. Today I don't even know if TC has still got two servers. TL;DR NO... -1 |

Quote:.14. Hazard signs It's already a rule. Where's the problem? This will simply encourage people to follow it rather than get banned..? |

Hell, they have never been consistently full - only for brief periods after new tracks/LFS patches have been released. The slight reduction in numbers is probably due to a general LFS user-base decline. |

RE: Hazard limit
Chances are that people don't even notice they're losing money or don't care at all. People lose money by speeding already, yet they speed.

RE: Hazard limit
There'd also be the problem of legitimate drivers losing a huge amount of money by unknowingly driving at 70mph over the speed limit during the time it takes for them to spot the hazard sign and slow down.

RE: Hazard limit
It would be nice if there would be an onscreen notice that says "Limit reduced to 30mph due to hazard" or something. I also think if there's a problem with the visibility of the hazard sign, then that's a problem in it of itself, as this idea came today out of having two hazards on the Autobahn and multiple chat messages informing of the hazards, and several cars that didn't slow down ended up causing a major accident.

RE: Hazard limit
It already says "slow down" afaik, having a set speed probably won't make any difference if they're not slowing down atm.

RE: Hazard limit
I think that with accidents, cops and other emergency vehicles need to do more role-play.
Cops should stand way in front of the accident with a caution sign, maybe even closing a lane or forcing people somewhere else. I think that if cops etc would do more of role-play with securing an accident, it'd become a lot more common for people to actually slow down. But I'm afraid that won't happen any time soon. |

RE: Hazard limit
Well, we have those rules about caution- and hazard-signs. If people keep ignoring them its up to admins to enforce them. Ie, UF1 restrictions should be given out more often.

RE: Hazard limit
When you put up hazard sign, it requires to be stationary. When you move it goes automatically away - Like speedtraps.
With !hazard set on an accident scene, it could have a speedtrap on the same package - auto-fining user speeding past too fast. |

RE: Hazard limit
Few things i could see becoming a problem.
You have cops/tows using caution/hazard when not needed and/or forget to turn them off, which is already annoying but making people loose money for their mistake would make it worse. Cops could abuse this feature to get high fines from people. The stretch of road that the caution sign is visible is quite small and you need to give cars time to slow down safely to 30mph. All of this would mean the actual area where people would get fined for driving above 30mph would be quite small and i doubt that insim would notice or even fine you for it. |

RE: Hazard limit
I don't necessarily agree. I don't see hazard being abused, but underused. The hazard sign is quite visible, a lot more so than a caution, and as I said before, if the sign cannot be sign with sufficient time to slow down, then the visibility distance needs to be extended.

Anyhow, sorry I just reread your sentence and I misinterpreted what you wrote, my bad. I don't think the real issue is slowing down for cautions, as they are generally not used for highly dangerous situations where a slow rate of speed is required, but for hazards. If it's a busy server with multiple users on and there is a user blocking the Autobahn (or a similarly dangerous situation), I will generally setup a hazard further down the road first and wait for the TOW to arrive. This does obviously assume other units are around, which they are often not. If this were to be implemented I don't think that cautions should be part of it, as many times cautions are just for a random towing on the grass or a cop fining someone, situations that you can spot and avoid by just continuing on your driving path or altering it. Hazards are something that need to be slowed down for. There's no reason that people shouldn't slow down on a closed section of the Autobahn with two hazards set up, and cause an accident. And to your other point, I don't really think hazard abuse is a major issue, and if/when it does occur, you can just tell them to turn it off, pretty simple. I think this would only occur due to misinformation, or a lack of experience. Communication is key in situations like this. |
