Actually, there's a part of me that likes this idea. I see from where you are coming from, I remember having a roleplay thing like this on GTA SA-MP where we talked in roleplay and when we wanted to say something ooc (out of character) it'd be like ((LOL)) etc and actually it was alot of fun.
It's kinda the same reason I often don't enjoy [TC] layouts - When they are more focussed on anti-noobing than a realistic road layout for roleplay which can be abit blaah if you know what I mean. I can see why people would oppose mandate roleplay espescially with our community as is having a large base of non-primarly english speakers, some don't speak it at all making things abit difficult. We do have channel chat, local chat, pm'ing etc but actually to be frank it's abit of a pain in the bum writing !ch !pmto xyz !pm !l etc and thus I can't really see this idea being implemented too easily unless we start getting insim chat buttons and windows and try to revolutionise chatting which is alot of work for one Chuck |

Disabling global chat: Can't be done.
As for the rest, people are already free to do whatever roleplay they want to (within reason). An unofficial [RP] tag is already used by some who want to take the roleplay a step further. However, I don't see any of these suggestions being made into rules - it's a very strict way of doing things and while a few people would enjoy it, I suspect that most people wouldn't. |

The layouts are a big thing for lfs cruising. I often get bored of seeing the same stuff over and over maybe we can have some kind of rotation?? I understand the TC's have to try keep it anti-noob but it really does ruin some aspects. I myself have seen some great layouts come from Tommer. Maybe we can get him to do us a set of realistic layouts, and try them all and see how the community likes them. I'm not saying Elmo's doing a bad job with the layouts or anything, its just the constant tires after tires.. Also some of the pointless barriers (Yes i understand you need a few for chases) But there are way to many sometimes.. |

Gotta agree again with Bez Some of Tommers layouts are really great, I think he should have a go on a layout that would be used on a server.

Just to remind you of the huge amount of crashes caused by the last layout of Tommer's that we used
I've said in the members area that I might remake it in a way that isn't inherently dangerous when I get the time. I (also we, I'm not the only one doing layout changes) do try to make the layouts realistic where possible, unfortunately, there are quite a few things that get in the way. The biggest is probably the speeds that people drive. If the typical speed was ~40-60mph on the twisty stuff and ~70-85 on the highways with people following the road laws 99.9% of the time then sure, centre chalk lines for normal roads, open junctions and solid central barriers on highways would be fine (object count permitting, which is the other major problem). However, since driving very fast and trying to gain every possible advantage is a matter of course on our servers as well as people generally not really paying enough attention to other traffic, that simply isn't possible. Because of that, we often have to encourage (tyres & speedbumps) or force (barriers) specific lines round corners and build protected junctions where people can join/leave the road in relative safety (although of course even that doesn't help when it comes to some drivers). I'll also mention that the Weston Park layout got quite a lot of praise when it first came out, which supported the new corner design philosophy I was trying out at the time, with centre barriers & tyres being placed in strategic places to block the normal racing line (although H2 has always been tricky because it's so damn boring) If there are any specific parts of layouts that you feel need attention, then feel free to bring it up with your reasoning. I/we may have a go at making some fresh/alternative layouts for some tracks, although there are several areas that are very limited in what can actually be done. I also have another partially complete design for Sydney in the works that will probably see the light of day at some point. |

It's generally not the layout itself that causes the crashes though (with a few exceptions), it's usually either the way the track goes or, as seen on the crash maps, people can't drive in a straight line or pull across the track without trying to look
On the other hand, I have been known to add little details that are designed to cause a crash in specific situations - it encourages people to not take the more dangerous routes ::evilgrin:: Creating layouts that work well is quite hard and, especially for junctions, can take a lot of testing ideally with a small number of people. With experience and observation you begin to learn the kinds of things that do and don't work just by looking at them, based on how people typically behave at various speeds. Oh, and if it looks messy, it will usually drive messy. |
