Summary
Yesterday concluded the 4th running of the [TC] CityDriving 24 Hour Winter Gumball, our 13th Gumball rally to date. We saw new faces, new teams and most importantly a new winner with a record 24 hour distance total of 4,018km, the equivalent of driving the US coast to coast. Our 2018 Gumball 24 hour champion is [6S] Babszem (zsocus). Even though this event was advertised less than a week ago, this was the best attended 24 hour Gumball to date, both in the team and individual competitions. We are beginning to reach the absolute limit of what is physically possible to achieve in a 24 hour driving competition. Every year we see records broken and distance totals smashed. Three new records were set this year and we don't expect to see any of them broken any time soon. The first is Babszem's incredible distance total which required an average speed of more than 166kph to achieve. The next record was set by [RDSR] Warrior (stanis96), a 2 times Gumball champion, setting the fastest ever average speed of any Gumball event of 173kph over 3,308km. The third major record was set in the teams' competition where our top 2 teams endured an extremely intense 12 hour battle from 6am-6pm on Saturday. Trailing by over 100km at the half way mark, Team Galag managed to close the gap to 0km over Team Saints with 5 hours to go, briefly taking the lead before the new entry responded, opening the gap to just 8 kilometres when the clock hit 0 at 6pm. Team Galag were once again denied victory in Gumball but should be proud to have pushed the rookie quintet of Team Saints all the way to the line for one of the most exciting conclusions to the Gumball we've ever witnessed. Full results can be found here. Please do not forget to nominate your Spirit of the Gumball and please spare a moment to leave some feedback of your experience. We hope you all enjoyed the latest edition of this event and we look forward to seeing you at the next one! |
