Well, talking to Lamp yesterday, it definitely wasn't going to be a proper rolling start (cars side by side, at a constant speed and formation until green flag) which is pretty much guaranteed to be a mess. Even single file, you get more T1 problems with a proper rolling start, because chances are the cars at the back are going faster than those at the front at green (anyone ever seen a WTCC Race 1 start? If professional drivers can't consistently manage it, what chance have we?). At least with a standing start everyone's going at more or less the same speed.
Whereas with a standard safety car start/restart, you're pretty much guaranteed to have a bit of a spread by T1, because it's the lead car dictating the start and everyone else reacting to the car in front. |
