RE: Modify the loss curve

In jamaica it's possible to go -129 in a fz in the transition from h2 to the 60mph long straight..* Elmo is confused at that one H2 doesn't transition into any long straights, it's a junction <> H2 south (85mph) <> a chicane <> H2 north (75mph) <> The Beach. The current bonuses are a bit too stingy IMO, but that's a different matter. (2012-09-13 18:11)Tommer Wrote: Blablabla we should punish speeders. Well no, think about all those fun chases your having, and the cop loses nothing here, and yet we've to put up with these crazy losses for just a little bit of fun. It's not about punishing speeders, it's about striking an overall speed balance. There are 2 theories to the way it works: 1. It discourages people from speeding consistently and the more dangerous the speeding (relative to the speed limit) the more it discourages you. People have to drive around close to the speedlimit to be able to afford to speed, which means that there should always be a variety of speeders and people driving close to the limits at all times. 2. You have to spend time and distance earning the money to speed in the first place. This, in theory, means that people get to know the layouts and should make sure they have a reasonable amount of experience before driving around a break-neck speeds. The loss calculation is already better than it was before - it was changed for this reset as there was a misinterpretation in the implementation of old system. Before, the speed used for the calculation started much closer to the speed limit than it does now, meaning you suddenly started loosing several € per tick as soon as you went over the ~130%; now it starts at 0 @ ~130% and gradually increases from there. The calculation is not different for different cars. It is purely based on the speed you are travelling above the threshold. If you drive at 120mph in a 75 limit in an FZ you will lose exactly the same amount at that speed as you would if you were ragging the nuts off an XRG at 120mph. The money loss calculation hasn't changed significantly in 5 years - even from before we had the first bonus system. It's worked so far. The thing that's really changed is that the FZ5 is now used a lot more than it used to, meaning people are reaching the loss thresholds sooner and, more critically, gaining up to 20mph extra top speed which is where the non-linear loss starts to hurt. People should drive the TBOs more again |
