Gifting isn't really a defining point of either, even though afaik it does happen in both for some families but neither or either/or for others.

I guess many children (depending mostly on age) don't really get what Thanksgiving's really about, in the same way that they don't really get what Christmas is all about. Hell, there are even a lot of adults that don't get it or don't care.
