Well quite, and that's why unnecessary use of foglights is both illegal and shunned.

I remember our Volvo 740 had some yellow foglights in the bumper (stock from factory) and we could use them as daytime running lights.

Those were probably the finnish Talmu "huomiovalo", most likely installed at the dealership. Talmu Oy lobbyed their lights into the finnish legislation long before daytime running lights were a thing like they are today.

Because even at daytime it can be hard to see oncoming traffic - when they don't have their daytime running lights on.

If you drive through a forest road covered up by big tree's all around, you'll need the lights, and you will be happy when other people have their lights on aswell.

Also, when its cloudy its usually grey-ish outside. With more than 'cloudy' it becomes dark, which is when you also want the lights on.

Its pure to be able to see oncoming traffic easier. For when you want to overtake for instance.

Now, the problem is, people often use fog lights as daytime running lights. They are brighter, and "look cool". Because they are brighter than daytime running lights, AND low beams, they are incredibly blinding. Not to mention the effect it'll have at night.

Blinding people for the sake of looking cool, where has humanity gone to.



Anyway, I washed my car again, for the first time in a month. Geesh it was about time..

Bright fog lights are more annoying than anything. Especially when you drive an 84 volkswagen every day and the lights are bad enough. Then you get some cool kid in mom's Nissan with hid fogs and suddenly you can't see a damn thing. I'd rather someone come at me with high beams then bright fogs

Im agree with what Johan said but I think Fog lights must be used only when there's enough fog on the road and you can't see a shit. I hate when another car cooming infront of me or behind me have them on just because there's a little foggy on the road, also those that put them on without knowing what it does just because they think "oh I can see more with these lights"

Its looks cool with fog lights but when you been pulled over you gonna get a ticket for sure if those is on day time, many people driving with it here i live but they dont care.

I almost never use my foglights, only when its really dark or if the fog is thick enough. They mak some good side lights on my car, they really light up the road better than my headlights. I could even use the fog lights instead of headlights if I wanted to

BTW, there's a difference between driving lights and fog lights to those that don't know, driving lights come on with the high beams, fog lights have an independant switch to control them (my car needs the corner lights/parkers on to use the fog lights, but not headlights).
