I would only recommend turboing for an engine that 1. has a variation that has a turbo as stock (you could nick needed parts from that) and or 2. an old enough engine which has simple mechanics and no sophisticated stock engine management.

Id disagree. Turboing an old engine is much harder than turboing a newer engine because of stone aged engine management, ofcourse in both cases you'll have to do some quite a big changes to engine and engine management. I have turboed and old taunus as some of you know and i have allso turboed an quite new golf. Atleast in this case Golf was about 500 times easyer to charge than Taunus.

Best and cheapest solution is ofcourse to buy a car that has turbo fitted to it as standard and tune it.
