Because of our laws. Some trickery was already used; when swapping an engine it can only be 25% larger than the biggest original factory engine, and 20% more powerful than the most powerful factory engine.

So that is the GSi Corsa at 1598cc and 74kw.
This allows for an engine with max. 1997.5cc and 88.8kw.
The engine size is scraping it at 1998cc, but inspection officers were lenient enough to let that 0.5 pass.

The power of the stock 20NE is 87kw, which fits nicely, but not much room for more.
(20NE and 20SEH blocks are identical, but because of the different pistons and other thingamajigs it makes 97kw which goes over the limit, so a 20NE block was used to hide the fact while still retaining the high compression.)

The 20XE flies way past at 115kw and can't be made to even look legal due to the DOHC head.

Those sound very similar to ours, so they might be based on the same (silly) principles. If that's the case, wouldn't it be possible to use Opels ümrustkatalog (I think it was called) as documentation for the vehicle frames max power rating? I used that method for a '77 Kadett C/C20XE build I was doing once and Opel happily provided me with all the documentation I needed for the build, including what size brakes had to be fitted for the build to be deemed safe by them. I was quite impressed by how helpful they were.

(150bhp and 230Nm for that car if anyones interested)

Sadly the finnish legislation sets the hard limit based on production models, so even if Opel said it works fine, you couldn't do it. Opel is very helpful to provide the comparison certificate for Corsa GSi though.

There's also an even sillier and an even harder limit that the 20XE wouldn't pass; even if the values are within the +20%/+25% limit, the maximum power to weight ratio in this case can be no less than 7kg/kw. The Corsa would be somewhere around 6.7kg/kw.

You could probably do anything by applying for an exemption, but that costs a ton, takes a year to process, might not pass, and in general it's mostly a joke.

Oh, that kinda sucks. I wish the legislation was inspiried by the swedes. They got it right.

Spent some time under the bonnet of the Corsa, tried starting afterwards. Seems to work as it should, the idle is like that because of the camshaft obviously.

Don't forget that in cold regions like where Toni lives, cracking a windshield is not a question of "not doing it." Here in Canada, it's almost more common to see a car with a crack running along the bottom where the temperature vents are. It's a question of hot-cold stuff causing issues. We're used to it.

Only window ive cracked due to sudden temperature changes was in the corolla when i left it in a underground car park for 6hrs, came back and the crack was bigger. Also cracked it even more due to listening too much bass music while the window was frozen.
