You could reconnect and rejoin the chase, before leas you just had the officer do the BACKUP bind again and people rejoined.

-Cop 1: Requesting backup! [!location]
-Cop 2: Responding.
-Cop 3: Responding.
-Cop 4: Responding.
-Cop 5. Responding.

And thats after one backup call.

IIRC, there was always a limit on the number of cops (even in C&R/USA times) initially by gentleman's agreement followed by official rules. More were very occasionally allowed if the suspect was OK with it and it didn't get too crazy.
