He's not trying too much, that's just how he races.

RE: F1 Valencia
So what if Hamilton was trying to race like Senna? All great drivers learn from others. And who better to learn from than Senna?

RE: F1 Valencia
UK people will always say it wasn't Hamiltons fault.
Happened ever since he joined the sport. Never liked him. Yes, it was his fault, stupid of him to run that close to Maldanado who he has had previous episodes with, Hammy knows Maldanado is a very aggressive driver, so shutting the door like that on someone you know is likely to just take no shit and wipe you out is rather short sighted. Regardless of who is actually at fault, Hamilton knows how he is, and took an unnecessary risk. |

I was hoping Grosjean would win, just to keep the record going. As in, 8 races, 8 different winners.

Regardless of what you think the risks were, unless you can explain why Hamilton was in violation of the rules, it's unreasonable for you to say he was at fault. Who's fault it is should be determined by the positions of each car throughout the corner, not the characteristics or driving style of each driver. How aggressive a driver is or isn't doesn't change the rules and shouldn't cause you to fear contact when you're driving within the rules. Senna is a good example of this. |

Senna is a good example of this. Maldonado WAS driving within the rules, and Hamilton made him fear contact so much Maldonado was forced to drive off the track to avoid him. If he'd had kept his line (which he has every right to do), Hamilton would have hit him on the first corner. Maldonado had to rejoin the track somewhere, and technically should've joined in front of Hamilton (or Hamilton would've gained a place by unfair advantage). Instead Hamilton kept going as fast as he could and blocked Maldonado from joining the track. |

RE: F1 Valencia
I'm not really defending Hamilton as much as pointing out the flaws with Nippers argument. However, aren't you allowed to tactically force people off the track provided you don't make contact? I agree, if contact was made though the first corner as a result of Hamilton not leaving enough space on the track for Maldonado, that would have been Hamilton's fault. But that didn't happen - Maldonado chose to drive off the track and then re-joined unsafely, surely Maldonado is at least partly to blame according to the rule book.

RE: F1 Valencia
No, you can't force anyone off the track for any reason, and regardless of contact.
Maldonado did not choose to drive off the track - as I said before, if he hadn't, Hamilton would have hit him and that would have been his race over. So he had no choice but to avoid him. Maldonado, according to the rule book, did rejoin unsafely, but only because Hamilton didn't back off as he should have. |

RE: F1 Valencia
Forcing fellow racer off the track is just plain stupid, I don't know if it's a rule not to but that's just stupid to do.

RE: F1 Valencia
The reason you can't force anyone off the track is simple - it's dangerous. Ideally, every inch of the track would have an armco barrier right at the edge of the track. Obviously in the name of safety, a lot of the corners will have non-armco'ed boxes so that a racer won't plough straight into a barrier, but the area should still be treated as if it is cut off by barriers - i.e. deliberately forcing someone into such an area is seen as the same as deliberately forcing them into a wall.
