If it was me in the second one I'd have politely told her that whether she saw me or not, I was there and it was her fault for not looking properly. And then I'd have politely punched her in the face.

To be honest, it depends on the situation. Either side can nit pick at bad points.

No PeePee. In both situations, the cyclist had right of way, the second one had lights AND a fluorescent jacket on, and got hit TWICE, both by people who claimed to see him late. If they'd looked properly, and been as observant as they should have been, and been a tiny bit more patient, that guy would have continued through that junction fine. On a busy main road, if you have a van or similar in front of you that you cannot see through, you do not under any circumstances follow it directly through a junction, for the simple reason that you don't know what is coming. If that had been another car there, the driver of the car which would have been hit could have been killed, it could have slid sideways into the second car.

The woman in the second video was just stupid, if she's turning left out of a junction, aside from keeping an eye out for pedestrians and the like in the direction she's turning into, her main focus should be on what is coming from her right, purely because that is what provides the main danger. Her last look before pulling out should be what is on her right. If she's stupid enough to assume that something which she should have seen when making her checks before pulling out has gone past her before pulling out, then she deserves the abuse. The fact that she then continued to drive forward having stopped once when she ran over the bike and part of his leg is even worse, as it shows that she had no awareness of what was going on as she was pulling out.


And the first video, the driver is just a massive *Removed* who shouldn't be allowed on the road if they're doing things like that, the cyclist was lucky not to be killed (A big part of that will be the fact that he's wearing a helmet)

In the first video, both the cars at the roundabout drove on, if one hadn't hit the bike there would at least have been a near miss between them.

In the second video, neither driver had an excuse, and the second driver had the cheek to beep her horn at the cyclist as she ran him over. She probably knew he was there, but either didn't know the bike was there or just didn't care.

It's obvious for those two drivers to see him if they gave enough time to look, the second being the worst, they both need to re sit their test.

Had a similar accident not long ago, luckily my bike and me survived without injuries or damage, but yh, it really sucks, cause many drivers don't really pay attention and you just know "okay, i got right of way, there's a car coming, he can probably clearly see me, so he'll stop" and then bang ... he didn't stop ... really lucky both that they survived, could've come much worse ... people like this should get their license revoked

Same for me michi, got my first accident like that 3-4month ago. Was passing a few cars on the cycle path to their right when i came up to a junction. Car beside me wheels not slightly turned, no indication and the driver was looking in a completely different direction then he suddenly turned.
Took off his mirror with my left arm and rolled over the bonnet. Me and bike was fine though, must ve rolled off perfectly. The car had a mirror missing, dented fender and a few scratches on the bonet.

Agree a 100% with you up to that point. The helmet in that vey case did not help at all, because the impact from the road was taken by his face/chin. Those parts are not covered by helmet and there is a possibility the shape of the helmet made it harder for him to minimize the damage of the fall by rolling over.

Obviously he had right of way. These videos show how damnright dangerous some drivers really are and that the minute one car pulls out they assume its safe to do so too. Stuff like this is why insurance premiums are so high and insurance for young people is even higher.

I think the black car pulled out, correctly assuming the green car would give way to the cyclist, which was clearly going strait ahead. Can't be sure though.

Pipa, it may not have helped as much as I first thought now you mention it, but even if most of the impact was taken on the chin, then there's still no saying what could have happened had the head then snapped forward and the impact being taken on the temple or pretty much anywhere on the skull.

I had an accident once (stupidly not wearing a helmet, I've worn one every time since) where I clipped a small pothole and just got thrown off, was lucky to survive and that I was just getting up to speed when it happened, still got the scar above my right eye where I had stitches (blood everywhere, ambulance, sat in the back swearing repeatedly in shock, can't remember any of it, the whole shebang )

Refreshing to see this point of view from a driving forum.

As a cyclist, I don't advocate the use of helmet cameras to name and shame bad overtakes, everyone makes mistakes etc. but I think in this situation they're put to good use. You can clearly see that the cyclist was visible etc. Might remind people to look twice.

That stuff just happens and although it could have been prevented by wearing a helmet, i doubt anybody would wear one on these occasions so why on the bike?

Not saying you shouldn't, feel free to wear what ever you want, but in my oppinion the possibility of having a head injury on the bike is quite rare and having a serious head injury where the helmet actually saves my life even more rare. I cycled about 20 years now almost every day, 15 without a helmet and i have never had a head injury, so the probability in my case is kinda canceling the helmet out.

Also the holes in my head weren't that bad as i got toys after each hospital visit. I hope it still works that way .

My father was almost killed, because he was riding his bike along, came across a pothole and was boxed in by other cars. Tried braking but there was a drain cover before it and he just slid. He spent a couple of months in hospital and still has metal plates in his jaw.

I once had the front wheel fall off my bike while riding flat out. Forks dug into the ground, I went over the handlebars and the bike landed on me. I still have a scar on my elbow. If I'd hit my head on the ground I fear the outcome may have been much worse.

Since then, I've always worn a full-face helmet.

As for the whole driver vs biker thing, I've once had someone honk at me simply because I was yielding to a biker before making a right turn. And it wasn't just a tap of the horn, but several seconds long. Yeesh.
